Former Cowboys guard Nate Newton appeared on the Midday Show with Dennis and Friedo on KESN-FM 103.3 ESPN Radio to talk about OTAs. Here are some highlights:

On the reports that Tony Romo looks younger:

Newton: No he doesn't look any younger, but you know I was actually questioned during the OTAs 'How does Tony look?' He looks like Tony. He looks like the Tony we saw in 2014 as far as throwing the ball. He was accurate. He was on time with it. He was changing a few plays when he had the right players in there to run the system. I'm going to tell you though the best passes I saw was when he was handing off to Ezekiell Elliott going off left tackle. That was the best pass I saw all day.

On Ezekiel Elliott:

Newton: The guy is smooth. He has no wasted motion. Everything is kind of centered around him. Even when they did team, they did one-on-one,

And people here still think he isnt going to be the starting RB

Yeah, I hope he's staying in shape cause I think he's gonna be used a ton, and only come out for breathers. Maybe they can actually get a consistent screen play worked out in TC, to Zeke and McFadden

Going RBBC last year was the biggest idiotic move Dallas made and once Romo and Dez got hurt, it was a lost season. This team flourishes with a bell cow RB, dominating OL and opportunistic passing attack to keep defenses honest.

And speaking of Zeke, he reminds me of Duane Thomas running style-----smooth and no wasted motions. Always going forward, deceptive power and speed. Let's just hope he lasts longer than Duane and talks a little bit more. This will be fun to watch.

This was obvious after Linehan said that he got with EE before rookie camp to give him more information. They generally do not trust rookies and bring them along slowly. Murray too a year or two to really get opportunities and that was not all due to injuries. With a top 5 pick, they cannot do that.

I fear they are going to run him into the ground like was done to Stephen Jackson.

I can't imagine anybody thinking we're going RBBC this season. We obviously aren't.

They won't and he'll most likely be toast before his 2nd contract is over. I do think that between Morris and DMC, they have more trust, more bodies, and thus will have more snaps than Randle did in 2014.

I personally would like to see a 50/50 split on running downs with Zeke and the other two and then give Zeke the lion's share on passing downs. He would still get >75% of the snaps and not run into the ground.

I think it's probable, at least by overall touches. I found it interesting in the press conference immediately following drafting Elliott, the tram once again decided to mention they have a disinterest in investing in second contracts when it comes to Dallas.

If Elliott is still at the peak of his game and the face of the franchise in five years, he will get a second deal but I highly doubt we try to preserve him for that second deal in the slightest. He was drafted for the next five seasons, not 10.
