Stephen Jackson averaged 17.3 carries per game over the course of his career.

His high was 346 carries in his 3rd season.

There were 11 seasons when he was the "bell cow"... He only had 300+ carries in 3 of those seasons.

The Cowboys are not going to "DeMarco" Elliott. Just ain't gonna happen.

If this offense is like the one in 2014 there'll be 500 carries to go around.

Spend the number 4 pick on a RB to only play half a game?

It is about winning games, not what you spent on a player.
It is about having a fresh elliot for the playoff games.
In 2014 when they got in the playoffs, murray was wore down, and had a broken hand.

Murray was worn down by game 12. The last quarter of the season? His burst was gone.

Just can't conceive the Cowboys doing that to Elliot... Not with McFadden & Morris on the roster.

McFadden is the day one starter but Zeke will end up the starter before mid-season.

This was obvious after Linehan said that he got with EE before rookie camp to give him more information. They generally do not trust rookies and bring them along slowly. Murray too a year or two to really get opportunities and that was not all due to injuries. With a top 5 pick, they cannot do that.

I fear they are going to run him into the ground like was done to Stephen Jackson.

You may be correct but the time to you use the young backs is well...use him up:D If he does prove to be AP freakish in terms of longevity, he'll get that 2nd contract and be worthy of the pick. Otherwise, we probably should have made the move for Goff/Wentz. Watson and Kaaya are projected just as high next year but the QB class as a whole is supposed to be better so we'll see how the college season plays out to see if we have the ammo to move up for Romo's replacement down the line (some QB always moves up as we know). But Romo will start if he is high functioning as he's our best player on the field when capable and prefer him to groom our next blue chipper over JG/Linehan/Wilson; this aspect scares me tbh.

Hope a decent vet gets cut in camp/PS to backup Tony for the short term injuries (if any), but we know if any injuries mirror last year we'll be in the top 10 most likely; Zeke or not. Didn't like Bosa and somewhat lucked out w/Ramsey (feel bad for the kid) so ready to run/pass to Zeke all day if it helps Romo get the ball out quicker and set up the Dez connection that was sorely missed last year as a threat to opposing D's.

Steven Jackson played 9 years with the Rams. We can only hope to be so lucky.

And if you look at his stats you see he had significant dropoffs every year after they gave him the ball 300 or more times. He was able to recover until they finally did it two years in a row.

Bellcow is not sustainable for all your nostalgia for Emmitt.

People here thought the slop we had along the OL years ago was good enough.

People here thought burning 50 million and our top 2 picks in the draft on a couple of cornerbacks was sound thinking.

People here thought La'el Collins would have to backup Ronald Leary for a year and then maybe compete for a starting job in 2016.

Just scroll to me, learn and hit the like button.

I said that Costa showed promise when he handled Ngata and Suh; I recall others willing to give him a shot for that same reason. Bernadeau was a decent player as was Holland. Kosier and Watters fell of a cliff but were serviceable to that point. I don't recall people saying they thought that Livings, Dockery, Killer, or Cook were 'good enough.' To the contrary, I recall a whole lot of glee at multiple first round picks then Collins on the OL.

While many people thought that Carr would be better than he has been, I don't think your gauging of the extremely fiscally conservative Dallas area's response to the price tag is accurate.

Ron Leary was the starter into the season until he pulled his groin and then was Wally Pipp'd. I'm not sure what you are thumping your chest about. Collins didn't win the TC contest for all your revision.

The megalomania, feigned infallibility, and snark via deification of the late round pick are bad enough but could you please not dumb it down quite so much next time. Belies what you're trying to do to appeal to your sensibilities.

Ezekiel Elliott won't be getting sole use as a running back. He should be the dominant carrier in games, but McFadden, Morris, Dunbar, and even Jackson could make the running backs addition to the offense, become the showcase of production. All won't fall upon Elliott.

This is what I initially thought would happen, but really there is no telling what jones boys will do
with him.
If they say they want him to start game one, and get 25 carries a game, what do you think
will happen ?

Murray was worn down by game 12. The last quarter of the season? His burst was gone.

Just can't conceive the Cowboys doing that to Elliot... Not with McFadden & Morris on the roster.

First 12 games of the season Murray averaged 4.97 ypc, last 4 games he averaged 3.98 ypc - and that included a monster game 13 vs Chicago. And coincidentally, his total touches after 12 games was exactly 300. Murray was good for about 340 touches before he really started to look slower.

I sincerely hope that we don't run Zeke into the ground the way we did Murray. I'm sure the coaches noticed Murray's drop off at the end of 2014 as well, and with reliable guys behind him I can't imagine they're going to be getting Zeke 25+ touches per game. Everyone needs to remember that a big part of the reason Murray got so many carries is because Randle was behind him and couldn't be counted on to pick up the blitz or follow instructions. With DMC behind him on the depth chart Zeke won't have that problem.

For every Emmitt and Eric Dickerson, who could handle 375 touches and come back exactly the same, there are dozens of guys who fell off sharply after being overworked. Emmitt was a freak of nature, and in his first five seasons even Emmitt averaged right around 25 touches per game. That's an inhuman workload, but the biggest reason Emmitt owns the all time rushing record is that he could maintain that outlandish workload year in and year out. The odds that Zeke can do the same are almost nil. So why run the kid into the ground trying to find out?

That would be a waste of his talent. 18-19 touches a game? They didnt draft him 4 overall to be a RBC type of player.

If he doesnt avg atleast 20 carries a game what was the point?

You're going to be disappointed if you think he's going to average 20 carries per game.

There's a difference between running back by committee and giving your bell cow some breaks on third down because you have a RB you trust, DMac, and on short yardage because you have a pounder who's been great at that in his career, Morris. Elliott should be held to 20 or so carries and kept fresh through 12 games; then he's ready for the grind down the stretch and playoffs.
