Gotta remember its early in camp and these guys are vets. They don't really need to be in camp. PUP for Hatch hints that it might be more serious though.

Never pay players who suddenly have a great year in a contract year

I hope we apply this to carter this year

So you thought Dallas should have cut Ware after the 2011 season when he had 19.5 sacks? That was still early into the 6 year contract he signed in 2009. Few teams if any would have cut him under those circumstances.

True. And I would not have cut him at that time.

But as the story goes, we have been rebuilding since Garrett took over. So if that was really the case, then Ware perhaps should have been shopped around at least. I imagine that coming off that type of performance (in 2011), we may have pulled off another great train robbery. Instead, we held on to him and then restructured his deal in Feb. 2013 only to cut him a little more than a year later.

But make no mistake about it. It was absolutely the correct move this off season. Its just too bad the FO didn't realize sooner that they have been rebuilding all these years.

Because as we all know, events that transpired to injure these two guys would have happened the exact same way here in Dallas.

Well, yeah. Seems everyone gets hurt here, especially after they sign a big contract.

Letting go of the old guard is the one thing I have to give the front office credit for.

For years I have watched people lament when a player from Dallas goers somewhere else, or a drafrtt missed does well and people dream about what he would have done here.

I do not believe what happen elsewhere would happen here of vice versa.

I think Dallas was the best place for Emmitt and while he would have been terrific, he would not have been what he is here.

So the idea a player who leaves here would get hurt elsewhere and people think we dodged a bullet suggests all things are equal.

I doubt that.

I know. My response was more tongue in cheek than anything else. Who knows what would have happened with those guys had they stayed here. But I do agree with the premise that it's often - not always - risky to pay older players.

Sorry, sometimes I miss that.

Well John Fox should take a page out of Herb Brooks book and look Ware in the eye and say "a bruise on the leg is hell a lot farther from the heart, you candya**."

Ware will definitely make a difference for anyone that plays the Broncos. Age plus softness equals BAD

I read that too but I guess it balances out since two of the guys we replaced them with are hurt too.

Where did you see anyone claim that? It's not about any particular injury, it's about older players being injury prone. Not a difficult concept to understand.

i knew this thread would backfire.

Only with people who have difficulty grasping simple concepts, apparently.

Love those guys but Ware and Miles were here 2 and 3 years too long respectively.

Same here. Ware was always hurt, and yet he was getting paid a large percentage of the overall salary cap. People don't think about that. By spreading the money around to younger less injury prone players, you can get a lot more production, with less chance of one player going down and losing the entire investment.

Basic scenario

What's more likely:

1 player at 12 million dollars on the cap who is 32 years old getting hurt or 4 players making 3 million per year who's age ranges between 22-25 years old all getting hurt?

You assume a great deal.Ware has a leg bruise. I bet there are those who are 22 that get leg bruises. Your assumption you don't pay age has some validity, but in this circumstance a bruise is hardly age specific. So he got hurt in training camp, buit that also doesn't mean he'd get hurt here.

To quote you here - -

Not a difficult concept to understand.

They were forced to, due to the salary cap. That would be like giving a chronic spender a pat on the back for not using credit cards, when they're already maxed out.
