FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones has completed his stint in drug court.

Matt Jones, WR

Career Statistics
Seasons: 4
Receptions: 166
Yards: 2,153
Touchdowns: 15

Jones was arrested in 2008 on suspicion of cocaine possession and, as part of a plea agreement, was ordered to participate in NFL-sponsored substance-abuse counseling and undergo random drug testing through the end of the football season.

The Jaguars released Jones, their 2005 first-round draft pick, in March after he failed a drug and alcohol test. Jones said at the time that he'd had beers while golfing with friends.

Jones, who played quarterback at the University of Arkansas, "graduated" from Washington County Drug Court on Monday, and his felony cocaine possession charge was dismissed.

Jones said he has learned from his mistakes and that he hopes an NFL team will make him an offer to play in 2009.

Jones set career highs last season in receptions (65) and yards (761) in just 12 games. He also scored two touchdowns.

Come on Stanback, can you go ahead and suffer your season ending injury already, so that Jerry Jones can put you on IR and justify filling your roster spot with Matt Jones?

Did a mock at the Cowbnoys-forum that year and he was my pick at #20. I was dead wrong and now wouldn't touch the fool.

I've got to believe Jerry Jones saying he's not interested means there's more to the situation than we know.

It could be just a situation like with Randy Moss, where Jones has cleaned house and wants to keep it clean for a while (which I don't think is the issue based on the Gerald Sensabaugh signing). But I think there are some ongoing issues here that Jerry is concerned about. He has two coaches who were around Matt Jones and know both if this is a long-term problem and if there are other issues with Jones to consider.

Jerry not pulling the trigger on this probably tells us all we need to know about Matt Jones ... and I say that as someone who has been in favor of bringing him in for cheap.

I think he made it pretty clear they had zero interest in this loser.

Matt Jones would be a good fit here bring him in.

Why would he be a good fit? Does Dallas need a guy that averages only 13.0 yards per reception for his career and 11.7 yards per reception last season? Those are pretty anemic averages for a guy that is supposed to be a superior athlete unlike others that have ever played the game before.

I assume you're being facetious. There's nothing wrong with Matt Jones' talents. It's the rest of the package.

I'd prefer him over Cinco whatever his current name is. But I don't think Jones is the type of teammate the Cowboys are actively seeking. Now, would they seek him in an urgent situation. Sure. Anyone looking to go to a SB will plug a hole. Is he the first player on their call list in the event of an urgency/emergency. Don't know. Maybe. Maybe not. Is he still suspended?? That's how interested I am in him. I don't know or care right now.

As opposed to all of those other receivers who have excelled in Jacksonville under the current coaching regime?

Those 65 catches sure wouldn't be any sort of upgrade over Hurd's 24 career catches, or Austin's 18 or Stanback's 3.

He's not the white Randy Moss like Chris Mortensen thought he'd be, but he's more proven than the perpetually damaged goods we've got on the current roster.

I'd rather have Owens back. We don't need drug abusing caricatures on this team.
