I think adding Jones only adds another question mark can he stay clean and out of trouble.

I don't see it as a question mark at all. If he even blinks the wrong way, his career is over. Nobody understands that better than Jones himself. A player doesn't get more motivated than that.

I think Dallas needs to bite the bullet and get these younger guys into games playing bigger roles than they have had.

I agree. Too bad that they're always hurt - even when there's no contact. I don't buy for a second that this bunch suddenly toughens up and stays healthy.

As for insurances maybe Dallas does add a player as teams are forced to reduce their rosters I just don't think this team needs to deal with yet another questionable player at this stage. I think the team is trying to send a message to the players now is not the time to take a step backwards with that message.

I don't see a player out there who's had close to the recent production Jones has. Certainly not one who just turned 26 years old with his measurables. If there is one, I'd gladly consider him too.

Just come out and say it Stash. Do you like the guy or not?

Matt Jones is not an upgrade over Crayton.

I wouldn't even begin to debate that point. I wouldn't be looking for Jones to replace Crayton anyway.

It remains to be seen what Austin will bring to the table.

And therein lies the problem. Three years plus into his career and it still 'remains to be seen'.

cobra said:
The only way I would be willing to do bring him in is for the minimum with the understanding that he's gone at the slightest mis-step. I assume that, unlike Pacman, this guy is smart enough to realize when he is facing his last chance and act accordingly.

Absolutely, positively agree.

cobra said:
But I don't think bringing him in here improves our WR corps appreciably. He's just another serviceable WR.

Serviceable enough to have caught more balls last season in 12 games than just about this entire receiving corps did.

I wouldn't look for him to be anything more than a still-developing player providing insurance for a receiving corps with a lousy history of injury.

I'm tired of dealing with player who at the 1st step mess up we cut them. Hell every single time we get a problem player everyone starts this well just cut him. I would rather just stay away from problems player for a change. Why do we need the be the Raiders looking for other people trash enough of this already.

I'll let you figure that out for yourself.

But I will say that there have been few times when I have felt that a player was a better fit for this team or felt that he had the skillset to help in so many ways.

I've always been a fan of low-risk/high-reward scenarios and reclamation projects.

I love the fact that Colombo revived his career while solving the Cowboys' long-standing problems at right tackle.

I see Jones as maybe the ultimate low-risk at this point. No draft pick cost, very little financial cost, and you'd be getting a talented, young player with everything to prove, coming off of far and away his best, most productive season.

And I'd also love to see what he could do in the Cowboys' 'Razorback' package too.

His measurables don't translate to the field. He only scored 2 TDs last season. He averaged 11.7 yards per reception last season. His supposed upside does not balance out his known downside. Plus the conversation is moot. If Jerry wanted another receiver he would have already signed one or he would not have released TO. What you see is what you are going to get this year and I would take those guys over Matt Jones who you can't count on anyway.

It sounds like you feel Jones is a career troublemaker and that he's guaranteed to screw up again and get cut.

I don't see it that way.

I see him as an immature guy who was taking his career for granted until he got the ultimate wake-up call.

A guy who knows that he's on his last strike - if he even gets that.

But I do not see him as a troublemaker or a bad influence on the team.

And if signing Jones meant cutting Stanback, I'm fine with that. Stanback might not get suspended, but the guy is hurt so often he can't help the team anyway.

Not in Jacksonville they didn't. But I would counter with the fact that no receivers excel there. I'd also mention the fact that Jacksonville never used him in any sort of creative ways either.

You're probably right and Jerry won't sign him. I feel that's Jerry's mistake.

As far as 'what you see is what you get'?

I see three guys who can't even manage to make it through the non-contact offseason stuff.

And if you 'can't count on' Jones, you certainly 'can't count on' this bunch, except for them getting injured.

'Count on' that.

I would just rather stay away from players on probation looking for another chance. I understand your concerns but I would rather go with RW, Crayton, Austin, Hurd and hopefully one of the rookie like Ogletree and Johnson. I really don't want to clear a roster spot for a guy who is on his last leg.

Someone mentioned it earlier but if we were going to take a chance on a guy I'd go with Plaxico. We signed Gerald Sensabaugh even though he was arrested for illegal firearms (He was at least smart enough not to shoot himself).

Talent-wise Plaxico is probably the best NFL player not currently signed (him or Michael Vick) and he would be extremely motivated for the 2 Giants games. I would only do it if it was a cheap, incentive-packed contract and it included clauses about his off-the-field activities.

Also, I'd have to be pretty convinced that Miles Austin was not the player Jerry has been advertising him to be.

Plax is a Punk-*** thug wannabe. No way. I'd rather have Matt Jones if I had to pick.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in for the right money and stipulations. He's a young, healthy WR that has put up decent numbers. The only thing Stanback has over him is 8 months youth and a clean nose.

Gerald's last incident wasn't over the guns, he had them registered. It was over a suspended license.

Not a rampage Fuzzman, just a topic I'm greatly interested in and I guess a bit passionate about.

This move seems like a no-brainer to me, especially with the myriad question marks this team has at receiver.

And I very much enjoy debating the subject and given the time of year, I'm not finding too much other compelling subjects right now.
