Former Raiders player charged with 3 other murders

7/4/2012 2:08:26 PM

According to a court document released on Tuesday, former Los Angeles-Oakland Raiders defensive end Anthony Wayne Smith -- who was awaiting a retrial on a charge stemming from an October 2008 killing -- has been charged with three other murders in a case in which he could face the death penalty, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reports.

The criminal complaint, filed Monday, accuses Smith of three counts of murder for the Nov. 10, 1999, slayings of Kevin and Ricky Nettles and the June 25, 2001, killing of Dennis Henderson, along with the special circumstance allegations of murder involving the infliction of torture on the three victims and multiple murders.

Smith, 45, had been awaiting a retrial on a murder charge involving the Oct. 7, 2008, killing of Maurilio Ponce, after a Lancaster Superior Court jury deadlocked 8-4 April 18 in favor of finding him guilty.

"This came as quite a surprise," said defense attorney Michael S. Evans, who represented Smith in his first trial.

Oh me, oh my.

I am amazed every day how stupid some people are to even be close to those situations.

Guilty or not.

...slayings of Kevin and Ricky Nettles

Man. I can't even imagine losing two sons in one blow like that. Horrible.

The saddest part of all of this is, as a fan of the NFL, I'm not even shocked anymore when I read about these kind of things. And its not just the NFL. The NFL is just a reflection of out society in so many ways.
