Former OL/new DL Isaac Alarcón

Will Isaac Alarcón be a Dallas Cowboy in 2023 (whether on the 60 man roster or Practice Squad)?

When you’re at the bottom of the roster and asked to switch positions, it’s because you’re not making it out of training camp at your current position.

So the prospect is: can you learn to be better at DL in 6 months than you were at OL for 6 years?

I can't find any regulations that say he cannot continue to be roster exempt, giving Dallas an extra practice player, so I don't see why we'd cut him. You've essentially got a guy who can line up on scout team as an offensive lineman or defensive lineman. In fact, the reason they are trying him at DL this year is because he ran scout team there last year. It's important to have these players for practice purposes, so as long as he's roster exempt, they may as well keep him.

This is from nfl.com:
It's in the article link I provided. Isaac Alarcón already used up his IPP 3 year player exemption the past 3 years. This year, he has to outright earn it or get cut.

Why do the Cowboys waste time with these types? Nice story but he is not an NFL player.

Frankly we should be moving on from this exempt experiment. It's a progress stopper for a newcomer that could use Issac's practice reps and coaching time.

Issac will never be a player for the future, and even practice squad exempt is a waste.

Can he not better try his luck in the XFL or USFL ?
Because he was exempt it was a gamble worth taking. It’s a free extra roster spot.so not really a progress stopper at all. Now that the exemption is over he has to earn a spot just like all the rest so it’s likely the end of the road.

Too early to say. None of us has seen him play defense so how can anyone say? I’ll let you know Aug. 29th.

By the way, the ads here are getting outta control. They’re taking up 30% of my iphone screen.
The price you pay to not have to pay for all the wisdom and knowledge you get here. LOL

Is Mauricio Rodriguez shaving yet?

There's no downside to keeping Alarcon on the team practice squad. He has no chance at making the 53 man game roster.

Ok ... just read he has used up his exemption. I'm with Mary Q below (not literally, just on this thought) ... he gone !

Oh, then can I change my answer? I thought he was still IPP eligible, so I figured they would keep him around. However, in light of this new info, I don't believe he will be make the cut this year. Guess we'll see.

....If he hasnt made the team yet. I doubt it going further. PS, of course.

Yes, and Dallas is out of the rotation as well. And any other teams that had this exemption. New teams take over this year for their 3 year period.
I can't remember how many teams do this in each rotation. 4 or 6 teams I think. Could be more.

True, though he has one other problem. We are so loaded at Dline that his odds of making it are slimmer than at Oline.

Nice guy and nice story but you can't water down the talent pool just cause he's a nice guy.

If that's the case, then yeah, I can't see him making it. The expanded practice squad gives him an outside shot at it, but we want to keep players who can contribute or be developed on there. I don't think he qualifies as that at this point.
