Fourth down attempts

it was not close game it was early on and 0-0
it was 0-0 on our 2nd drive a close game lol that would have been late in the 2nd half and close , i agree with both calls and hindsight is always 2020...MM had no idea the players were lay a total egg in all 3 phases..

cant play the woulda coulda shoulda game now..
Can’t get much closer than 0-0 lol
But when you are in FG range and you’ve been stopped once, had a drive start at mid field and stopped, the 3 points the second one could have got might just give you a bit of momentum
Neither caused the loss, that was just a horrible day all around
Dak wasn’t sharp, receivers dropped passes or had them stripped, we could stop their run, heck a blocked punt came back to hurt you
Just one of those days when nothing’s goes your way
It happens in the nfl all the time
Regroup and learn from it
Get ready for next week

so but the beginning of game close it NOT late game where fg makes sense, i say he was simply being aggressive trusting his team to either execute it or easily make up for it later..the play calls themselves are on Moore, the plays failing on the players..

sorry coaches around the league do this, its situational football when its 0-0 and the defense at first looked great offense was moving the ball, they were simply being aggressive..you take more risks early when its 0-0 later then when its close wasn't close the rest of the way..

how was he supposed to know they would chit the bed the rest of the game.??

this is a total team loss and those 4th down had squat to do with the loss..

I get your point but going on 4th in back to back drives and not getting either is a huge let down
That’s why I’d have taken the 3 the second time
If they work they are genious, if they fail it’s a bad decision in some peoples eyes, but not mine
Before we went for it I said I’d kick and I too would have went for the first one
It was a total team loss
With the exception of parsons no one had a really great game and sometimes those types of games happen

Totally agree, Creeper, totally agree.

Respect the game, and respect the opponent. I understand that the Broncos offense also perceived said disrespect when the Cowboys were just lining up to go for it on 4th so early in the game (refusing to punt or attempt the FG). So that hyped them up, and the Broncos defense was ALREADY hyped after 2 consecutive 4th down stops. The rest is history. They rode that disrespect to a 30-0 lead.

For McCarthy, an NFL Head Coach, for him to not understand these same ramifications...it just doesn't give me much confidence for the caliber of his coaching. Sure, players will ALWAYS want to go for it, but that's why you need a HC who fully understands the risk/reward balance. It's OK, just punt and play field position. Or take the points and the lead. Having a lead is really important in the NFL, even if it's just by a FG, early in the game.

It is an overreaction to the Clapper who used to play for FGs all the time but that was a different situation. I am not suggesting going into a clamshell when they get close to the end zone. That's what the clapper did. I am only saying at the beginning of the game if you have the chance to get the first point, do it. It's not like Dallas should have expected they would not score again the rest of the game.

I’m ok with the once in between punt and FG range specially since our kicker has been unreliable but on you own half or midfield in a close game is stupid, specially with our OL struggling

Nothing steals momentum like being stopped on 4th down.

We came out, had a huge return, moved the ball a bit. Stopped on 4th. Cool. Make an average O earn it.

Forced a 3 and out. Move the ball again. Go for it on 4th. Stopped again.

Their defense no longer has any respect for you. They just stopped you twice. It should be 3-0 and making them drive the field. The entire team was fired up from this and it set the tone early

They should be using Pollard more on 4th down. He's way quicker out of the gate imo.
