FOX gets Thursday Night Football

Guess fox had some money to waste. Also means next cba won't be getting rid of or reducing slate of Thursday night games.

So we get a double dose of Aikman and Bucky Joe, or do they think they are too good to do TNF?

Not dead, but dying if things don't change. The ratings drop is real. They'd better be glad the Super Bowl draws non-football fans.

Declining? Maybe. Dying? No.

This past Sunday night, the pro bowl had the highest ratings on television scoring better to other sports playoff games. To round out the top 5? NFL Sunday Countdown.

For the pro bowl!

Ratings are only a small part of the story and only someone with an objective will read into them. The NFL is still enjoying record advertising revenue despite the ratings dip and they are still attracting massive television deals such as the one referenced in this thread.

As more Americans cut the cord, ratings will continue to dip but when you’re still the top rated show on television by a large margin and you’re still the most popular sport by an even larger margin..advertisers are still going to line up. As long as the advertising contracts and the television deals continue to increase, NFL isn’t going away anytime soon.

I thought the NFL was dead though? I read it here.

LOL. What are the "I wanna see the NFL fall" folks going to do with this one? The last Thursday night deal was at $450M per season. This one is at $600M per season or a 37.5% increase. Guess they'll just keep cheering for ratings to fall, lol.

Only a matter of time before Wednesday Night Football and Tuesday Night Football too

Money to waste?

TNF games are still some of the highest rated games in sports.

I’m not a big fan either but I reluctantly watch the games like most of us do

I hear what you are saying but if you were Fox would you have paid significantly MORE than current deal for a product that is receiving lots of negative reviews & the players and many fans want done away with. Seems like you are paying a premium to take a large risk with not much hope of upside. The climate today seems to be one of change so while i agree that sports (in particular the NFL) has lived outside the rules of traditional TV for decades, not sure that continues.

I personally would love to watch a good game everyday if it made sense, but it doesn't. In my opinion Thursday night games are killing the league in terms of health.
Secondly and probably the most realistic reason I think it sucks is that the games were majority garbage.
games that were horrible and gave me eye cancer:
Texans vs. Bengals
Patriots vs. Buccs
Dolphins vs. Raiders
Vikings vs. Browns
Seahawks vs. Cards
Broncos vs. Colts
Bears vs. Lions
Chargers vs. Chiefs
Colts vs. Ravens
Steelers vs. Texans.

doo-doo
