Fox QB tiers

Yeah it’s the two mvps he’s in elite company with that. But it also kind of shows this whole “elite” thing is nuts. What makes someone elite? There’s no clear definition it’s just a buzz word used on sports talk platforms.

It use to be about rings but then guys like Eli got 2 so then we had to change that. Then it became about mvps but then Lamar got 2 of them.
Rings alone mean nothing; really
Trent Dilfer has one
MVPs alone mean little; I mean Lamar has two and has not sniffed a ring
So the MVP is not everything as well

From what I can see only Mahomes, Stafford and Rodgers have both a ring and a MVP. So I guess realistically they should be the only elites right now
And you can throw a blanket over a bunch after them

I don't belive any of those so-called Elite quarterbacks are elite.

Mahomes was, but I think he like Allen and Jackson are more "Franchise Carriers" now.

I think the NFL is lacking any real elite quarterbacks right now.

That said I think teams are built better now to not need an elite quarterback to win Super Bowls.
....good perception points, Reality. The last line on your post, rings clear bells.

A good QB with fundamentals, and ability to protect the ball. Can get you there.

That’s my point. The arguments are all flawed.

Even with Mahomes the argument is he’s elite because of titles he won years ago. But Mahomes has not looked elite for years. The term elite is just a bs talking point. I get it in the NBA. With the NFL with 53 players on a roster….it looks less clear.

Hasn’t that always been the case though? Do we think people like Terry Bradshaw was elite? Or Trent Dilfer? I remember when Rex Grossman made a SB lol.

The thing about Mahomes is he won so many rings in such a small period of time….im willing to say he’s elite but truthfully he hasn’t looked elite the last two years. But I do not know how people could consider Mahomes to be on the same level as Allen and Lamar. Especially Lamar.
Agreed. Except I think that Allen is the only one who could be considered elite.

Accrued injuries to both Mahomes and Jackson have certainly lessened their escapability, which is/was a key part of their once-elite status.

I won't even go that far. I think every quarterback is supporting cast dependent. Some are more so than others, but they still cannot carry a team. I do think there are elite supporting cast dependent quarterbacks.

My main issue with this list is the ridiculous names for the tiers. “Franchise carriers”? Why didn’t Stafford carry Detroit to anything? Herbert has carried that franchise to zero playoff wins. I absolutely hate the verbiage on that. “Supporting cast dependent”….you can out almost every qb into that tier and be done with it lol. Even Mahomes has looked very ordinary the last couple of years as the offensive talent has dipped.

It’s interesting….the franchise carriers are all talent dependent too so what makes them any different? They are just creating tiers just to create them lol.

None of these guys are making the Jets or Browns contenders tommorow….
It's the same propaganda that gets promoted by fans, that somehow the quarterback is the one responsible for wins and losses. It disregards history that shows that even the greatest quarterbacks the game has known only won Super Bowls when they were supported by great players around them: top receivers, top runners, the best OLs, top defenses. Now, the best QBs may not have to have all of that, but they generally have some.

Troy Aikman is a Hall of Fame quarterback because Dallas had Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Jay Novacek, one of the best offensive lines in football and one of the best defenses in football. If he had been on another team, it wouldn't have changed his talent, but it would have changed the result for him.

So with Josh….i see similar issues in the playoffs to Lamar. I’m amazed at some of the stupid things Josh does it comes across as amateurish.

I don't think he is, but 2 MVPs, gives him this I guess
The thing is, did he deserve the MVP's or were they just given to him. I can see, the other not so much.
I just don't think he is that good of a passer. He can be at times though.

I'm okay with the distinction of Mahomes/Allen being in a different tier than the next group of guys, and I suppose by definition that tier could be called 'elite'.

But elite connotes something different to me because most of my NFL watching career was essentially the golden age of QBs.

Brady, Rodgers, and Manning were elite. Mahomes has been elite for a good portion of his career, but man has he not lived up to that standard lately.
