sounds like your average to me.

in truth, i just don't care. he punished us while here but that's me being "personal" about it cause i never wanted him here, but he did what he could.

even if he does go into the HOF it damn sure won't be as a cowboy, so i really don't care if he goes or not.

Did you just call me average? :D

I didn't want him here either. I like Drew Bledsoe, but he was done prior to arriving in Dallas. I don't like stop gaps. I would rather struggle with a young, inexperienced QB than one that is not the long term solution.

glasses not on and i've not corrected my left eye w/lasic since the cornea transplant. so, i sometimes miss a word cause i can't really see what i've had to go back and correct.

i meant to say bledsoe sounded like your average qb who's got good numbers only by sheer time in the league.

And that's what Buffalo decided at the end of the 2004 season-- they'd rather struggle with Losman than stay with what they had with Bledsoe.

Wait, I'm certain I've heard this somewhere.

Yeah. :)

I just wanted to say it again before someone suggested that we couldn't comment on this topic. ;)

It's the hall of fame, not the hall of very good. Bledsoe deserves a mention or narrow-miss or two, but I gotta admit, he's not HOF worthy.

He deserves strong consideration at the very least.

He doesn't belong in for the same reason Art Monk doesn't belong in.

It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Stats.

I think he belongs in the Danny White, Don Meredith, Kenny Stabler, Randall Cunningham category as good QBs who never won the big one (except for Stabler) and thus don't go to the Hall.

He is a close but no cigar fella' like Danny White, same number and everything.

But since Warren Moon was elected into the HOF I think he broke more than a color barrier, I think he opened the door open for that second tier, if the league is consistent that is.

Truthfully Moon is a second tier QB.

Moon may be second tier but he still ranks ahead of Bledsoe in many important categories. Such as completion percentage 58.4% to 57.2% and yards per attempt (7.2 to 6.6). Needless to say Moon blows Bledsoe out of the water when it comes to rushing stats 1,736 yards and 22 TD's to Bledsoe's 764 yards and 10 TD's.

All in all I would say Moon is clearly better than Bledsoe... by a wide margin? No. But enough separates them to be able make a distinction between the two when it comes to their HOF qualifications.

How many HoF QBs got benched for the backup and couldnt win back the starting job?

Not trying to be funny, just curious.

Yes but Bledsoe had a better win percentage, playoff record and led a team to the Super Bowl, helped groom Tom Brady, secured a second Super Bowl birth for the Patriots off the bench.

I don't thing he is Hall worthy but I don't think Moon is either and once you allow one questionable selection it opens the door for a slippery slope.

I never saw the fascination in Bledsoe... If I were the football god he would be in the hall of the mediocre. I again point to testiverdi. Is Vinny a HOF? he has just as good of stats as Bledsoe and Vinny rarely had the weapons or teams that Bledsoe did. I truly believe a case can be made that Vinny was a better QB even while in Dallas (see my older posts for stats and circumstances). Plus Vinny was nothing but class while he was here and I didn't see any Vinny for the HOF threads...why... because it is ridiculous... just as it is ridiculous for Bledsoe. Nice guys, tons of stats, mediocre QB's.

Anybody who would tell you differently (imho) is a fan of the player and not of the game.

I watched Bledsoe during his 2 years as Cowboys QB and during his final year in Buffalo (the Cowboys had the Bills 1st round pick that year, so I watched Bills games).

Based exclusively on his final 3 years in the league, he sure didn't look like a Hall of Fame QB.

Of course Aikman didn't look all that great during his final year or two either.

To be honest, it is tough to judge a guy's career if you've only seen the downhilll portion of it.

---

Just to be clear, I don't think Bledsoe is a Hall of Famer. But I also didn't watch much of him during his best years - my impression might be different had I seen him at his best.

The gif below pretty accurately captures the "Drew Bledsoe Era" in Dallas...
