Franchise QBs

What’s the name of that Adam Sandler movie with the remote?

FF to 9/9

Bortles isn't that great and isn't that terrible.
Right.. with one of the best defenses and running games he’s not expected to carry the team.

We can only hope we can develop a similar situation here with Dak. I think it’s a reasonable comparison.

And let’s hope Daks contract is similar also with 3 years 50 million which doesn’t commit long term nor totally straps the team in continuing to surround with talent.

Because if you commit closer to100 million he’d better be able to elevate lesser talent around him.

I assume you know this, but....
Not many people anywhere outside of Jacksonville think Blake freaking Bortles is a true franchise QB

I agree on Dak.
Let him grow.

But to be fair and honest, many of those with worries are basing it on 2017...the most recent data.

Few QBs in the whole league had more similar statistical seasons last year than Bortles and Prescott.
They were incredibly similar in passing, rushing, TD-int differential, total yards, int rate, etc, etc, etc.
VERY similar in 2017
:hammer: Bortles is trash. Throwout all those tricky numbers and stats. You can tell a franchise qb when you watch them play. You'll find yourself saying "holy crud". " omg did you see that". "No freaking way" " are you kidding me"

One doesn't have to be a great player to be a good coach.

Agreed. So you think Jamarcus Russel wasn't interested ?

when you put a guy that is QB backup as QB coach from one year to the next, there is definitely something wrong.

Kellen has never coached. EVER. Not even high school .

Putting Kellen to coach the most important position in an NFL team is just massive irresponsible.

I trust what he learned from Romo and Sanchez combined with his own work ethic will see him through.

Sadly, both aren't here anymore ...
Instead Garrett put Kellen Moore, a guy who Dak beat for the starting position . Obviously Dak KNOWS he is much better than his 'new coach' .

How can he learn ?

I tell ya ... Garrett is pure trash as HC.
Playing and coaching are two different things. Great players typically dont make for great coachs.

Coaches need to learn under other coaches, its not pure luck to be a good coach ... and the mentality that a 'bad player will make a great coach' is sad as it is laughable.

That is why people want to be coaches and others players, since they are young . They have different passions and interests.

A bad player who FALLS BACK ON COACHING is a death trap .

but its not about information ... its about passion and interests .

thats why if a backup QB doesn't work out, THEY NEVER PUT HIM AS A QB coach.

doesn't work that way .

Deadpool was the #3 at one point, wasn't he? He did a good job coaching Romo.

I expect Dak to settle in somewhere between year 1 performance and year 2 performance ... and I'll take that. Having the leagues very best QB is going to be financial suicide for teams...these QB's and receivers eat up a ton of cap space...

True but they also normally bring you a Ship, see Rodgers, Brees, Big Ben, Manning, Brady..

I rather be in financial suicide for a while with a Ship in a decade than not winning a divisional Playoff game for 23 years counting.

I was scouting some Jaguars cause they apparently have a deep Line and now might need, say, Hurns back -- trade baby! it makes too much sense, but anyway...

I came across a Bortles post, which apparently is a very common debate similar to our Dak debates. The author wasn't pro-Jake but did say he improved last year and is their franchise QB.

Here was his bullet points (stay with me)

  • higher completion percentage (60.2% was career high)
  • fewer interceptions (13 was career low)
  • lower INT% (2.5% was career low)
  • higher quarterback rating (from 78.8 to 84.7)
  • higher QBR (from 42.8 to 55.5, a career high)
  • fewer sacks allowed (24, a career low)
  • career-high net yards per pass attempt (NY/A) and adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A)
  • reduced total turnovers (INT's + fumbles lost) from 22 to 16 (a career low)

Now, let's think about our similar Dak debates. Dak's worst year crushes these numbers. Bortles is an inaccurate turnover machine, who doesn't really threaten with his legs. Dak's best year makes this look laughable. And this was a team on the brink of the Super Bowl. And a guy who has much more experience and higher draft pedigree.

I say we let Dak grow, and thank god we actually have a franchise QB. Not so sure about Bortles.

Cant compare because Bortles throws deep more often than Dak. Besides nobody here would want Bortles.

And yet Fournettee faced stacked boxes 48.5% of the time compared to only 35% for Zeke. I thought deep passing was supposed to back the defense off?

Effective deep passing is the key. Ideal situation would be to work the mid range part of the field effectively so teams cant stack the box. Bortles is so hit and miss teams would choose to play the run.
