The Cowboys were the first team to win a SB with the rushing leader, and did it 3 times. But that's probably both coincidental, and because Emmitt was the main reason Dallas was there. The only other team I can say won SBs because their RB took them over the top are the Broncos with Davis.

Tony was a rookie the year they won the SB. I think he started like 4 or 5 games. He's not what put them over the top that year. He was part of it, yeah, but nothing so obvious as Emmitt.

What team was that running back by committee?

OJ had a good OL, they were good, and got downfield to block, and he would get behind them , use their blocks then cut left or right off the block.
He gave his OL a lot of credit for that season, and would not talk to press without them present.

Murray didn't miss any games in 2014 but he did play against Philly with a cast on his hand and was limited in that one. Emmitt got hurt on Thanksgiving Day against KC in 1995 and didn't finish the game but the 10 day layoff allowed him not to miss any time.

Emmitt had a decent shot at 2,000 until that game.

OJ's 2003 was in a 14 game season.
10 ypg more than the 2nd best ypg of all time from Jim Brown.

Emmitt had a decent shot at 2,000 until that game.

I actually had him already penciled in for 2K before that game. He was averaging ~125-130 a game before that. Once he left the KC game I think Switzer and Co. got spooked and tried to rest him more.. Plus even though he played the next two games I don't think he was fully recovered from that injury.. I think somebody rolled up on his knee if I recall correctly. I think he missed like the 4th quarter of that game but suited up the next 8 weeks all the way to the Super Bowl. Damn that dude was tough..

I honestly thought he would get it myself, and no he wasn't quite the same after that. He did have a couple more 100-yard games after that, but nothing spectacular until the NFC Championship.

Dallas . Tony Took them over the top his rookie season. That's the Sole reason they traded for him. They had a cheap effective back in Preston Pearson the year before and loss to Pittsburgh. They got Tony Tony got rookie of the year honors and the rest is Cowboys history

But in 77 when they won Tony Dorsett wasn't an Emmitt like reason we won but he was a huge contributor. That 's Dallas saying that not me.

It’s interesting that of the top 10 record rushing seasons on this list, only 1 one won a SB that year. It was Terrell Davis in 1998. Apparently having a franchise record rushing season doesn’t often mean championship.

The 92 Cowboys were the first team to ever win the SB with the league's leading rusher.

The next year, they were the first team to win it after starting out 0-2. And that same RB led the league in rushing after missing 2 games and closed out the regular season with one of the NFL all time efforts.

I do not believe there was a more money motivated player in the NFL; however, when you paid Emmitt, you got everything he had.

I was just going by memory. I'm also not going to remember anything prior to around SB 9. Too young. I was still a young kid even by SB 12. I can only go by memory. I just remember that defense being really nasty. But I guess if you want to go back far enough you can find other times RBs made a huge difference in getting over the top.
