Franchise Tag Deadline is today

Well, GP outperformed CeeDee last year pretty handily

CeeDee was down and GP had a career year.

I think we’ll see GP show WR1 ability again this year.

CeeDee is an excellent wide receiver but GP has some extraordinary skills and defensive coordinators have taken notice and plan for him because he can be a game breaker.
I knew you were going to say this!! Can we expect the same output as of last season? Do you feel that coordinators will roll more coverage his way to limit the big plays??

Lamb has a significant cap hit in 2027. He’ll need a new deal after this season to mitigate his expense. He’s two years older than Pickens. It may make more sense to trade Lamb. Sign Pickens.
How big is the hit? Any chance of him taking a step back to let Pickens shine more to get his bag?? With that said there's no way to get out of the lamb deal, trade him and give GP the big deal??

About reading the Mark Twain novel.
I'm done with you lol lol lol lol lol

if they did, it would give the news pundits something to ramble about as usual!!!

Why can't they tell us why there's no long term extension, did he NOT do enough last season to warrant a new deal?? Doesn't have to be super long, just a few extra years that's all sheesh!! Do they expect him to act crazy soon??

you mean next season when it's more expensive or just tag him again
You need another hobby. Maybe get a girlfriend.

Saw an article allegedly from nfl coordinators and they said that teams shifted to game planning GP late in the season cause he was on fire

I certainly hope he repeats it because we’re still gonna need to score a ton of points this year to have a shot at the playoffs

This is not complicated. The Jones boys don't want to give another WR 100M in guaranteed money. The 27 million is much nicer. They'll revisit this next season depending on how this season plays out.

The smart thing to have done was give him an extension the moment they traded for him, the same way the Eagles did with AJ Brown. But that's not how the Cowboys operate. Howie with the Eagles does everything in his power to minimize the cap hit of his star players. The Jones boys couldn't care less. This is a recurring theme with them.
First, Pickens said he wasn't interested in signing a long term deal. It's not like they could have held him down and forced him to sign a team friendly deal.
Second, if they had signed him long term and he became a headcase, like some accused him of late in the season, I'm guessing you would have been one of the first in here crying about how they were so stupid to sign him long term given his history and slurping the eagles front office for something else you think they did right.

The Cowboys made the most prudent decision on Pickens they realistically could make. Nonetheless, they’re paying him $27.298 million to get another year closer to being free of the Cowboys. The 2027 tag will cost the Cowboys approximately $32.8 million, and a third tag in 2028 will be over $47 million. Pickens is actually very much in control of his future as a player. He and his agent seem to have a plan. Wonder if the Cowboys do?

The last 5 words in your paragraph is the big key to all this.

LOL no. It's only you freaks that worry about character. I couldn't care less. It's about signing players for the least against the cap. That's all that matters. The Eagles do it all the time. The Cowboys don't. This crap about Pickens not wanting to sign a long term deal is ******** at best. Of course he would have signed a long term deal. The Cowboys simply didn't want to give another WR 100M in guaranteed money. I don't care about head cases. I care about how they play on the field. Let the coaching staff worry about the head case.

Again, he wasn't willing to sign a long term deal last year. And I guarantee when he flamed out you would have been one of the first ones running in here to chirp about how you knew it would happen and if only the Eagles blah blah blah

He's not in any kind of control until after next year unless he wants to sit. Otherwise the Cowboys control him this year and next.

Not entirely true. He can control where he can be traded by simply telling any team interested he will not sign a long term deal with them. No one is going to give up much for a one season rental. Or partial season rental. Soon as the season ends and then he becomes a free agent he can’t traded at all. Cowboys will have to tag him and then he controls a trade again sans a deal he wants. Worse case scenario he is forced to play for the Cowboys, but now for almost $33 million. A 20% increase in pay, and the salary cap is not going up by 20% next season. Good money for a WR2. All against the cap. At some point Dallas will want to do something with him. He’ll want a huge contract if he plays well this season. If he plays poorly, no team is going to be compelled to give up much in trade for him.

That’s a degree of control.

I think you may be getting the timeline a little bit muddied or, more likely, simply aren’t recalling the facts

Soon after the trade Pickens was asked about signing an extension before or during the 2025 season. Jerry had already said there weren’t any negotiations but the media had to ask. Pickens said he was jsut going to play ball and let the negotiations play out between the Cowboys and his agent.

The Cowboys publicly shut down any talk of an extension during the season

After the season Jerry came right out of the gate before the combine and publicly said, in his combine bus press conference, that they had informed Pickens that there would be no long term deal and that he was getting the tag.

Pickens only response was basically “it’s whatever, I’m gonna ball and not worry about the tag.

Since then not a word, but of course Jerry and Stephen had to flex right before the draft and restate that they had no intentions to work on a long term deal and that GP would play on the tag. It was out of the blue and not in response to any thing and was just a Jones flex to get media attention

A day or so later there were comments that Pickens had signed the tag (he hadn’t) and then the trade rumors on draft weekend. All of that was almost certainly Jerry and Stephen.

So, there’s zero evidence that GP was playing hard to get or didn’t want to sign. To the contrary, the cowboys played the entire thing out in the media and Pickens gave little or no response,

If they tag him next year, which is what I think they'll do, that's essentially paying 2 WRs. Actually worse. Had they given him a 4 year contract when they got him, there is typically an out after 3 years, and the first 2 years wouldn't be 60 million against the cap. But that ship has sailed. I highly doubt they extend him now.
No one else wanted him, neither for more than a third round pick nor any takers this year. Why would the cowboys have signed a perceived malcontent right after they got him? Were you comfortable taking that risk after the way things went down in PIT? I bet you weren’t even happy that we traded for him at the time.
