Fredbeard 2.0 mock

The Ravens like Ruiz. We probably have to get in front of them to pick the Michigan center. It’s funny how the talking heads are not saying anything about the retirement of Marshall Yanda. He was the linchpin of their offensive line and was one of the top guards in the league.

Like the trade, dont mind the players, but there isnt any kind of chance Baun is there at 51.

Im currently on board with him at 17.

Dealing back is the right move for this team in this draft, but if Jordan Love is off the board, and I think he will be...I just dont see it as very likely.

On the other hand I dont think Ruiz will go that high.

In fact if you flip him and Baun its probably more realistic, but I dont at all think Baun makes it out of the first round. Pass rush is too important.

Wanted to know what it would look like to again trade down in the first and take a center. Here we go. Used the PFN simulator.

First the trade

Traded 17 and 82 to the colts for 34, 44 and 75 (love this trade and its really what I want us to do)

The picks:

2(34) Cesar Ruiz- C, Michigan. Light years ahead of every other center in the draft. Plug and play starter. Let’s Looney be the backup and let’s the Connor’s duke it out at LG. More and more I’m coming around to being okay with him as our top pick if we trade down. Love the player

2 (44) Grant Delpit- S, LSU. The best safety in this class. Size speed ratio is off the charts. He’s the ball hawk we’ve been wanting for years. I’m not playing him in the box so I’m not as concerned about tackling as some. And I think some of that has to do with him playing through a high ankle last year.

2(51) Zack Baun- OLB Wisconsin. No idea where he plays but he was the best player on the board and we seem interested. Trust the new staff to get him after the QB.

3(75) Raekwon Davis- DL Alabama. Surprised he was on the board. Gives us another big boy in the middle with McCoy and Poe.

4(123) Amik Robertson CB La Tech. Day one starter in the nickle. Vastly underrated cause he is short. All he did was produce in college.

5(164) James Proche WR SMU. Can’t say I am thrilled with the pick but WR was wiped. Can play the slot and be a core ST guy.

5(179) Alex Taylor OT SC State. Measurables off the chart. Needs a redshirt year but could absolutely be your LT of the future. Might be early but not picking again for a bit I wanted to take him.

7(231) Cole McDonald QB Hawaii. Why not? And McCarthy loves to draft and develop young quarterbacks

there you have it. I’m biased but I think it’s a home run.

I'm not against drafting an elite Center per se, but if you took BPA literally then an interior OL might always be the Best Player at his position of how teams value most other position higher.
  • Delpit, Baun and Davis are all likely gone by those picks.
  • Are there any 5-8 CBs anymore?
    • Slot CBs due to their positioning near the line need to be able to play the run.
    • It the era of the big WR and many teams are using using bigger WRs in the slot.
    • Offenses often make it a goal to find ways to force a small slot CB to cover their 6-6 athletic TE.
  • I do like the 5th round OT. He played RT in college but he has a massive 88" wingspan and quick feet.

I actually like this idea.
