Reviewed on my replayed DVR's recording.....
Call was misstated by Refs, then repeated mistakenly by air crew.Leary grabbed and held clearly. Fredericks barely hooked and released,I believe the refs meant to say "65" and missed the number.

That's weird because Travis essentially said he knew it was on him immediately.

Yep. EzE should have had about a buck fifty rushing with close to 200 total yards.

Instead the ref calls a hold that wouldn't have even effected the play... even if it was a real hold.
and that would have been his longest run of the year, close to 70 yards?

It may not have been egregious, but it was a hold. Saying "meh, I've seen worse" doesn't somehow make it not a penalty or one that shouldn't have been called. Travis admitted it and described the reasons why he understood why it was called.

I imagine that was a reply to my post. I didn't say it wasn't a hold, only that it was a ticky-tacky call of the sort that's both called and ignored in every game in the league, every week.

I agree, you can call it but was not much of a hold and have seen worse that were not called. I was just happy to see the Cowboys over come it. Having the ball moved back to the 12 yard line leaving the Cowboys with a 1st and 20 that is a tough situation to be in when trailing late in the game.

"Always keep your hands inside the shoulders of your guy's pads." That's what my old high school line coach used to say.

It was a hold. Not a blatant one though. Frederick barely hooked his guy and never significantly impeded the defender's path during the play. Happens every game. It's a classy move by Frederick to apologize but the hold didn't require a literal interpretation of the rule either.

No kidding.

NFL officials are in a tough spot. First and foremost, you want a fair game. And there are teams (most teams, but let's single one out here) like the Patriots who actively study the rules to find areas where there might be confusion (eg, reporting ineligible players, weak definitions surrounding what constitutes a pick). There are other teams, like the Seahawks who are ok breaking a specific rule (pass interference) repeatedly every down because they know it's only going to get called a handful of times in a game and they benefit from that. It's a tough job. But when it gets to the point that the officiating gets in the way of a hard fought game between two of the best teams in the league and makes the product on the field bad, they ought to do something about it. Honestly, that first half last week was just about unwatchable for me. Not because it wasn't always going our way because for a chunk of it it was working in our favor. I just hate watching a game where the outcome you know is largely influenced by officials when you know that, with another group, it absolutely would not be. I don't want to see PHI v. DAL as artistically interpreted by Jerome Boger and His Friends. I want to see plain ol' PHI v. DAL.

BTW, Zeke's reply to Frederick was what you want to hear:

“The first thing he said was, ‘Hey, no problem. Let’s go,’” Frederick said Wednesday."

I think the refs do the best job they can. I know I would not want to be out there doing their jobs.

Like 63. So with him about at 100 anyway it would have been closer to 160 rushing than 150

So that's what, two 50,60+ yarders about halfway into the season? Awesome.

Game changer.

For the degree of reach blocking that this zone running scheme requires, that's an impressive stat.

Post more.

Sure. But it should go both ways, if you DVR'ed, check out a few of Sproles bigger plays and first downs on those scoring drives, and you'll see the same fairly minor hook and release block a few times. If they were called consistently, who knows, the game might have ended in regulation.

It was his second hold of the season and only the seventh in four seasons.

Wow. Dude is just a beast at blocking and not getting out of position.
I can't believe we picked this guy in the 1st rd when it was clear that we could have obtain him later in the draft according to the experts.

Not if you bought it in August :)

With you showing so much faith back in August, it makes me want them to win even more, I hope you get to cash that out. That's awesome

The refs need help. The game has evolved into a speed demon that is harder for them to keep up than in previous eras. Their job is to make split second decisioins. Problem is that sometimes their brains are not processing what their eyes see (or don't see clearly) quickly enough. I don't know if part of the solution could be technology based but something should be conceived before the game grows even faster.

I agree. But it's past time that the league make them FTEs. They need to standardize the experience more than they do now, and hopefully optimize officiating across the board.

They work as being refs part-time and get paid a 6 figure income. I would love to be in their shoes. In fact, I would so biased in favor of the Cowboys I would never flag them.

Is that being a bad ref? You bet. But there are bias refs too that have their favorite teams. They don't get penalized for making bad calls.
