It is going to be really interesting when we have done nothing in terms of signing new players after a week.

There will be a lot of confusion with the inactivity. Probably a little bit of anger.

Even though that is clearly not the intelligent response.

I don't expect much either. We are going to have to be a little more active than last season though. We have too many free agents to be as patient as years past. Last season we were reportedly very interested in Lamar Miller and we were in talks with Weddle and Long. I doubt we do much but we could be a tad more aggressive.

2-3 mid range signings and focus on signing our own guys. The 3 guys I mentioned will likely have coaches in the room pushing for them so I thought they were a good fit.

I can get on board with logan and ware, why would we go after another WR that has a hard time knowing where to line up

Here is my prediction. We will sign the following :

Brandon Carr
JJ Wilcox
Kenny Stills
Jonathan Cooper
Kellon Moore
Darren McFadden
Demarcus Ware

It's not sexy but it's solid depth and would allow us to pick BPA come draft time.

We'd likely yield 2-3 comp picks for church, McClain , and twill . Probably a decent chance Mo is back on another short deal.

Stills is looking for 12 million a year reportedly. I doubt he gets that but I can't see the Cowboys getting in a bidding war with teams trying to make Stills a WR1. That's why I think Patterson makes more sense because he will be moderately cheap and will have an instant impact as a returner and will offer upside as a receiver.

Worst case scenario, he is a much better Whitehead(though more expensive) and can be a death threat; best case scenario is that his old college coach can help him tap into some of his potential and he will be a wr2 making about half of what Terence Williams will make(a 3rd of of what Stills will make).

I would love Ware back. He still has juice coming off the edge.

Give me one of the old edge rushers for cheap (Ware, Freeney, Peppers).... and limit his snaps to obvious pass rushing situations.
I agree. I think he would be really effective in small doses.

Free agency is scary close so besides our own players, anyone have any predictions?

It should be an interesting week!

I think they bring in one of Gilmore, AJ, or Kirk...If they don't bring in a top CB look for Perry, Sheard, or a trade for a DE. At WR look for Patterson, Thielen, or Garcon....let the games begin.

NFL free agency is like Christmas to me. I always asks for cool electronics, tools and gift cards but I always get plain underwear. The Cowboys will buy plenty of underwear this off-season against our wishes.

Stills is asking for crazy money.

I believe at least 2 out of the following 3 players are going to joint our team.

I believe the best way to predict future teams for free agents besides analyzing needs is to look at links between the player and the coaching staff. Derek Dooley is our wide receiver coach and there were some reports that we were eye balling Cordarelle Patterson in the 2013 draft because of the Dooley connection(Patterson's college coach) before the Vikings traded up to get him. In retrospect, it's great that we didn't draft him considering who we got in his place but Patterson would immediately fill a need at receiver and he would give us the return threat so many of us crave. He is definitely a risky WR2 so I still suspect we draft someone fairly high but if he has any chance to progress in that department, it would be with Dooley.

Teams also like to take players from within the division if possible due to the identical competition they would face. We snatched up Cedric Thornton last season to mixed results, I could see us making a push for Bennie Logan as well. They were high on him during the draft and he may be had at a lesser price considering the amount of quality interior linemen in the market.

Lastly, I will make an easy prediction in Demarcus Ware. I believe this one is a given if he leaves Denver. He gets to do what so many veterans feel they are destined to do, finish off their career where it started and be part of the reason the team that drafted them finally gets a ring. His offseason home is still here, he has worked with Garrett for a large portion of his career and his buddy Witten is still here.

This isn't necessarily the route I believe they should go...this is just my prediction of a few midrange free agents they make a run for that are not already on the roster.

It should be an interesting week!

I predict the Cowboys will overpay to sign there own FA's they want to keep and wont sign any other big name players. They will go bargain hunting like they have the last 4 years.

Honestly I cant begin to guess on incoming FAs with the exception of a 1 year stop gap in either Dware or Peppers. As far as our own go I think we re sign

Mo to another prove it deal
Carr to a reasonable deal
Wilcox also affordable
Butler to a cheap deal.
Cooper
Kellen Moore
Dmac 50/50 ** we NEVER shouldve cut the rookie RB (forgot his name)

In all likelihood I dont expect we pay Twilly, Church, or McClain.

Although I feel like we may suprise and make a strong push at one of the top remaining DE, IF any are left after franchise tags and re signing by thier own teams. Other than this I believe our improvements will have to come in the draft or in the form of Mayowa type guys. Most importantly we NEED Jaylon to have a big impact, although I wouldn't at all be suprised in going LB early.

I would love signing Patterson. I agree he would have an instant impact in the return game and has a much higher ceiling than Lucky.

And that underwear does more for you than any of those electronics or tools would

Were gonna sign aj bouye and d ware imo.

This will allow us to take bpa and double up on both in draft if possible.

The year we traded up to draft claiborne, we had just signed Carr to a large FA deal, we were trying to sew it up and cover our bases!

They both dissapointed but I think we employ the same agressive strategy this year.

Ware + Tapper + round 1-3 edge from Lawson/Watt/Willis/Reddick/Mathis etc.

And/or
Bouye + Jackson/Coneley/White/Baker/Obi etc.

I don't think the Cowboys will do a whole lot. They never really do. I think there's a chance that they might get a receiver. I don't know which one but I could see that happening.

Ware is just going to be a progress stopper from one of our younger guys. It's better to fill that need through the draft. If there is a need on the Cowboys that is better to resolve in FA rather than the draft, it is WR. I think a guy like Cordarrelle Patterson or Terrelle Pryor has the right price tag and can be a viable 2WR on this team.
