The idea of a bad contract in the NFL is going to drastically change once free agency starts March 9.

"The bottom line is, a lot of guys are gonna get overpaid this year," former NFL executive and ESPN analyst Bill Polian said during an interview on Sirius XM NFL.

With over $1 billion in available salary-cap space, nearly every franchise has the flexibility to be aggressive in pursuing talented individuals to improve rosters.

The projected market, positional value, previous production and personal histories helped determine which players are the most likely to be overpaid this offseason.

Numerous exorbitant free-agent contracts are expected to be signed, and no one should be surprised by the figures. Even so, Bleacher Report identified 10 free agents who are expected to receive paydays in excess of their perceived value.

"Seven games is all a team can rely on when weighing the possibility of signing cornerback Morris Claiborne. In the span of seven games, Claiborne developed from a massive draft bust into a competent defensive back.

As the corner emerged in 2016, his season came to an abrupt end due to a groin injury. Prior to his latest injury, Claiborne played the best football of his career. He graded among the top six cornerbacks in coverage during that period, per Pro Football Focus.

As well as he played, franchises saw what once made him the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft. Even so, teams can't forget how his first four seasons went. Claiborne dealt with multiple injuries and being benched on more than one occasion. Since his rookie campaign, the corner hasn't played more than 11 games in a season.

Claiborne's talent is tantalizing, especially after he flashed last year. Another franchise will believe it can maximize his abilities. If he remains healthy, the possibility does exist, but his career history isn't promising."

People may not like it...but I stick the transition tag on him. I'm not letting him get away for nothing. IMO he's a late bloomer...w/ his best football ahead of him. With that 7 wonderlic score....he may have finally caught on. Worth a one year gamble.

I'm bringing back Mo, Carr, Wilcox if I'm in charge. And I'm grabbing a defensive back somewhere in the first two rounds assuming the value lines up. You simply can't lose 4 starters in one position group in a single offseason. None of these guys would break the bank and all can provide a bridge to the next generation.

CB does seem to be the one position that guys turn a corner with their second team and mature into a grown man, Jenkins, DRC, and Talib are few that come to mind.

That would really suck but were really forced to guess about this guys availability. Id rather draft a guy or two or sign the guy from houston AJ somthin somthin

Would like to bring him back on a one year or dicounted contract

You can't lose 4 starters, I agree.

But then bringing back 4 key players from a secondary that was average to below that is lunacy IMO. Bring back Claiborne, Wilcox........... sign Jefferson from San Fran, sign an older CB who will come cheap, draft a CB in the draft.

Time to change up the mix. Church and Carr do nothing for me.

I don't mind this at all. If we could sign Mo and Carr on one year contracts, great. Especially Carr, cause if Brown can improve this year then we won't have to worry about Carr. Or if Mo keeps getting hurt, Brown still helps. Either way, we need both of them for now.

Too bad we can't count on OScan.

I would give Mo a 3m base guaranteed and then 200k a game roster bonus...that would be 6.2m if healthy

it would have a team option for the same thing in 2018 if he hits a certain number of games

Our secondary.... Considering our pass rush... Was not really the problem. They aren't superstars or playmakers.... And again I'm using a premium pick there... But come on. They were often defending for 5 seconds.

They all far exceeded my expectations, and I'd challenge anybody to say that they expected better from any of our free agents going into 2016 and were disappointed.

Disappointment starts up front.

The secondary is average. It just is.

There is no need to bring back the ENTIRE secondary. None.

It's time to change the mix and try to get better ACROSS THE BOARD in the secondary, not just add one high pick at CB and think it's all fine.

Changing the entire secondary is fantasy football. And if you agree that the secondary is average...why are you against bringing back average football players who are likely to be cheap? That's a steady part of the business of football.

I know it'd be nice to have a superstar at every position...or even an above average player at every position...but that's not possible.
