NFL teams rarely franchise guards because OL are lumped together and Steinbach is not worth a top 5 or even 10 salary.

Because of the new cap, too many teams have too much money chasing a lame free agent class. I hope Dallas sits out this round of free agency. Jones and his huge ego probably can't resist however.

Some guys of interest for me (not named Steinbach, Dielman, Edwards, Samuel)...

i dont think dallas will spend the money to get a guy like samuel. might be better off going with guys like randall gay, and rod hood and babineuax

Leonard Davis...I would not break the bank for this guy, but something tells me there is more to him than what he has shown so far.

i would love davis in dallas, but as a guard. the guy was a monster earlier in his career when the cardinals had him playing guard, but because of the teams lack of going after a tackle they moved him. biggest mistake for both sides.

Tim Rattay...Think he would be a very solid back up.

Mike Gandy...Versatile lineman who can play both G and T.

gandy plays 4 spots, and probably wont get better or worse then what he is now. and thats just a solid young vet only 28.


out of all these mentioned i could see dallas signing a cb, OL, and maybe a QB.

my preference would be 2 OL

deilman would probably be the only high priced player. with the other 4 being very affordable.

while i think defense needs some help i dont think the OLB is whats needed. ware, ellis, carp can do a very good job for dallas. maybe a inside guy can be gotten. a guy like kendrell bell if he's released. he's a 3-4 lb'er and kc signing him made a big mistake taking him out of his element. and with his poor season in that 4-3 he can go back to what made him a very good player being in the 3-4. and at an affordable price.

Not going to happen,, Thomas and Freeny will be tagged,, no way their teams let them leave and its very likely that Steinbach is tagged as well. I doubt very much that we will pay Samuels what he is looking for,

Not to mention that all 4 would cost like 30 million against the cap... OK, with some clever contract structuring, i.e. the use of signing bonuses, the first year hit might "only" be 20-25 mil...

The Boys will not have anywhere near that kind of cap room to bring in outside free agents... they'll be doing well to come up with 15 mil for free agents; some of their cap room will have to go toward bringing back some of their own FAs, and some of it will likely go toward locking up some young vets due to hit free agency a year or two down the line...
