On one play he supposedly slowed Ware down. If Free has so much talent and so much potential why was he not even TRIED last year when the Hotel had the infected hand and could not raise his arm? Free did not even play a minute even when the Hotel was that bad.
Why did we wait so long to put in Romo in '06? Why'd we wait so long to give Felix carries in the beginning of the season? Why'd we wait so long to have Choice replace an obviously injured Barber? Why wait so long to have Holland replace Procter?

It's a mutli-time pro bowl left tackle. You're not going to replace him unless he can't walk out onto the field.

Look how long it took them to insert Holland in place of Procter. Then when Holland got hurt they went right back to Procter until the last game and then finally put McQuistan in and he actually played pretty decently.

Well, if he's one of the only linemen we have that can slow down Ware, I think that's a decent sign he's ready to step up if needed.
Which is all you can expect any mortal to do.

I don't think there's a player on the roster that I'm rooting to come through more than Doug Free.

This franchise needs him.

No truer words have been spoken!!!!

Are our coaches really that stupid that they would have a player stay out there injured when they have someone that can do better or at least have a shot at it ready to go? Certainly possible but are they that bad? Or is it more of a case that they knew that even in his current condition the Hotel was better then Free?

kindly show me these REPORTS of Free pancaking people. I have read several reports that at most gave him tepid praise.

One of the biggest issues I have with Wade is that he will stick with guys pretty much no matter what. It doesn't matter how bad they suck.

Brian Stewart heads a long list of him doing this.

Free is likely going to be the OT backup on game day. This suggests to me that the staff sees him as ahead of McQuistan at this point - right now however I really think that the #1 backup at OT if there is any significant injury is Davis.

McQuistan peed his pants yesterday when facing Ware in practice, reportedly. Whats he gonna do in a game?:laugh2:

I have wrestled with this question since last season when I was watching the only offensive player IMHO who was showing signs of eroding skills.....not Terrell Owens but Flozell Adams. I think that the coaches knew even a sub-par Flo who had an infected hand was better than Free. That is sad!

But, as I said before, Flo gets no pass from me for playing "hurt". If he was "injured" he shouldn't have been out there jeopardizing the franchise QB. A lot of players play "hurt" and IMO should be judged as if you are healthy enough to perform if you step on that field Sunday.

That's the best you got? Make a joke about how he's going to go running to Cher or something if you want to make fun of the guy.

If you're a regular poster on this board, you already know this about Free.

Hos mentioned it earlier this offseason.

Hostile's words of wisdom about Free have me excited about him. Because Hostile was right about RW11 and a couple other instances that I cannot remember.

Free was a guy that was rated between the 1st and 2nd rounds before he hurt his foot in college.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2007/draft/players/3832.html

POSITIVES: Smart, alert lineman who stands out in pass protection. Displays a lot of quickness, recognizes blitzes and is an outstanding position blocker who makes effective use of angles. Stays square, keeps defenders in front of him and fights with his hands.

NEGATIVES: Not a dominant run blocker nor a true finisher. More of a finesse lineman than an outright mauler. Suffered a stress fracture in his foot early last season that hampered his play all year.

ANALYSIS: Formerly a tight end, Free has grown into a terrific offensive tackle. Offers a lot of upside for the next level yet may be incorrectly evaluated because of his injury last season. Possesses starting potential and is a bargain outside of the first round.

And the great Goose Gosselin had him rated #77 in the draft, where bust James Marten was rated 85th...

What I remember is Hos saying that he talked to his sources and his sources said that they were high on Free within the organization. Nothing about him being soft.

you're right, Free has no flaws to his game

I never said that but if you are going to make a claim at least back it up. I take it then that you cannot name even a single play though. I personally think that I haven't seen enough of the guy to come to any conclusion one way or another.
