I think the whole "We're looking for a potential starting guard" thing is off the table. Leary and Free are your starters. Bern is the #1 backup.

I think that it's probably off the table, but Jerry made an odd comment about not bringing in a vet guard "before the Giants game." That qualifier very much leaves the door open to bringing In a vet after week 1 when the salary would not be guaranteed.

Will it happen? I'd say the odds are more likely that it won't, but the door it stil open.

Oh I know it's part of the doomsday crowd. Obviously since they think they know more then the scouts the coaches and the players and the team isn't making the moves THEY think they should make its an automatic failure. Baffles me that the doomsday crowd thinks this way. 2 first rounders a middle rounder and 2 UDFA starting on the line. I don't see a problem I see a lot to be encouraged about.

you remind me of Kevin Bacon in Animal House

  • I think this clearly shows desperation. They claim they thought about this in the offseason but they didn't try it until they failed to sign two old players. Free's problem has always been his strength.

  • I hope it works out but my guess is after a few regular season games people who like it will change their minds.

There's nothing that's going to make people like the play of our OL. No matter what the outcome of any potential move at RG.

There were rumblings all offseason about Free moving to RG. I never took them seriously, because I thought he was a bad fit, and we had bigger problems at OT, but I remember hearing the rumors. I do think this is something they wanted to look at, all along. I'm still skeptical it'll be an improvement over having Mack at RG and Free at RT.

I think height is my main concern with Free, but Kyle Long is also just over 6'6". Should be interesting, gotta say I didn't think the team had the testicular fortitude to try something so out of the box. I kinda like it.

My main concern is not Free, however. It's Parnell.

I said back in the spring and I'll say it again: Kevin Gogan was a terrible RT but a serviceable guard, even at 6'7. And, he made the Pro Bowl if I'm not mistaken, as a Raider. Why not Free? They are similar players in size and temperament.

I like free at guard. He failed at lt then rt. so he can't do much worse at guard. Hope this saves his career

Actually that's not very accurate. Free excelled at RT with HH and his scheme and Technique and moved to LT because of the hole that was there. Once it was evident that he was a better RT and with the drafting of Smith. He played decent but not up to the level he played before. Then the Cowboys Brass decided they wanted to change scheme again to the zone blocking and free struggled either grasping the technique or the scheme or both. But apparently he has a full grasp on what's going on and that's why he has looked good this TC and preseason.

It's a shame all the good work Free has done has been forgotten.

Speaks to how bad we've been at developing and signing guards.

Im ok with free at guard. After a year at it he should be pretty good. He looked good the last game at guard. But now we moved tyron for no reason lol

Free plays well in small space. When he's forced into open space thats when his form goes in the dump and he looks bad. Solid move.

I don't think it's a given that Free can't be a good guard but there are a couple of big factors stacked against him in the strength and experience departments. Opposing teams will be targeting him with stud DTs and stunts galore, ,, he's got his work cut out for him.

Eh I'm not wild on this move if indeed true... I think Bern will be back at RG once Leary is healthy and Free will move back to RT. (the best line combination by far)
