I prefer Edwards to Whitt, if we promote in house. He does have a track record of success in the same position. Don't know anything about his personal defensive philosophy; they had some good defenses and developed some good players in Minny, but how much was Zimmer and how much was him?
If he's aggressive, I'm all for it. We've got a one of a kind player that should be used aggressively. If he's conservative, no thanks.
- Zimmer's defense still struggled after Zimm fired Edwards, - his son Adam Zimmer and ex-Cowboys DL coach, Patterson shared and took over the DC role,.. and Vikes were even worse.
Edwards has past experience as a DC, and has worked in both 4-3 and 3-4 schemes. And now he's spent a year learning under Quinn within his scheme.
- Joe Whitt Jr is familar with both Quinn and McCarthy with two different ,respective NFL teams, but he's never been a full time DC before.
and it's so very crucial that we have the idea DC that will best exploit and utilize Micah Parsons ability as an impact player.
- Also McCarthy has much talked about his defense being more of the " Hybrid " of today's defense. Being able to convert and flex from
4-man DL or Defensive look, to
3 man DL or stand up roles.
- BTW, i'm not for a Mike Zimmer hire on as a DC. Word is He's dinosaur, stamped and stuck in his ways as a DC, and one that doesn't evolve or adjust to the more advanced, trendy
OC's and offenses. Could be Mariinell 2.0
