Part of the issue is dallas is not very good at playing chicken. Players and player agents know that dallas is up against the cap. Players know if they have shot at getting a better contract elsewhere. So as a player if you are some what usable you stick to your guns, the worst that happens is you get cut sign somewhere else for 100K more than dallas wanted you cut to.

Plus dallas still paid him millions while he was in Cincy last year.

Dallas did not pay him one penny last year while he was in Cincy. His 2008 contract had 22.5 million guaranteed over the first three years in salary and signing bonus. While we absorbed some of that by releasing him early that was money he was given to him as a signing bonus in 2008.

All he got paid last year was the $825,000 from Cincinnati and nothing else (except for any performance bonuses that may have been in his contract). He could have signed with us for the same $825,000 but chose not to (though I don't think we ever offered that). In the end I think his decision had more to do with what Gimme said more than anything else.

In other news, Dumervil is being asked by the Broncos to take a paycut. If he gets released, this will be one of the most buyer friendly pass rush market ever.

That would bode well for Spencer negotiations. Johnson got tagged but you have Dumervil, Bennett, Kruger, Freeney, Barwin, Avril, Umenyiora, etc.

Corey Webster and Michael Vick took pay cuts because they knew if they tested free agency by being released they would've saw less money. They had no choice. Dan Connor can get cut and get a similar or better contract somewhere else.

The Giants also released Bradshaw, Canty, and Boley after being unsuccessful on restructures this offseason.

The Eagles will do the same with Nnmadi and have already done so with Cullen Jenkins.

No team is doing any of this perfectly.

This. But fans of this team only see the good other teams do. Never the bad.

Unless it would cost more, I say cut him. What do we have Butler and Albright for?

Nice contribution! I had no idea that many "names" were on the market. That may very well keep Spencer's final deal in check somewhat.

I don't think so those pass rushers that do not play the run at all. Spencer is more complete than they are. Spencer is going to be playing strong side most of those guys are weak side like ware.

Ravens have told Bolden to take a pay cut or be released. This is exactly what Dallas should have did with Miles Austin.

No doubt. It's pass rush that gets paid though. I am just thinking of what other teams are likely to do. Spencer is signing his tender so it may be a moot point.

Without Boldin the Ravens don't even get to the Super Bowl, let alone win it. Not a great decision IMO.

Spencer also plays the run, something Butler hasn't shown yet. They are good backups and rotational guys, but I wouldn't say they are starters.

Butler is a free agent.

Albright hasn't shown anything but good ST play

Oh I agree totally with you about that and feel that is a mistake to do that to him but I totally think the Dallas should have employed the same proposition to Austin. Austin is getting paid like a number one and is not a number one.
