This franchise had one season with a back with 1000 yards between Emmitt Smith and Murray doing it last year.

It's hilarious how so many people think good backs are a dime a dozen. Maybe it's true for other franchises, but not this one. Pay that man his money.

It isn't that they're a dime a dozen. It's that they aren't usually the difference between winning and losing.

I bet each of the last 3 SB Champs and 5 of the last 7 overall SB Champs would wholeheartedly disagree with you. Bet!

It amazes me how nonchalantly people say RBS are easy to replace. Yea, because Murray is just another Top 10 RB to wear the Star since Emmitt left town. We are batting 1.000 when it comes to grabbing complete backs huh?

Pay this man and get it over with. Holding I jury against him is counterproductive when the franchise has shown in the recent past to invest in injury prone players. ROMO AND LEE ring a bell? Running backs are just as easily replaced as injury prone, rookie mistake making, gunslinging QB?

Romo is not injury prone...

Its worth paying truly elite players regardless of position. At RB I'd probably start to argue that its only worth paying truly elite players. The injury rate is high and how frequently guys seen as elite fade quickly is a scary thing. We paid the elite tackle. I think we're going to pay the elite WR. I think we probably have to decide to add players to the defense or pay the good RB.

Remember the day when being a great RB was almost as important as being a great QB?

Today we have monumental arguments about the proper placement of QBs within the 'Top 10' QB list and threads can run into 1000s of posts on the topic.

Seem to me that someone could say Murray is Top 5, Top 10, or Top 20 and I just wouldn't have much feeling or real care one way or another.

I think it's a testament to how far the overall value of individual RBs has fallen in the NFL. Heck, they don't even get drafted in the 1st round anymore.

Well without Marshawn, Seattle wouldn't of gotten to, and won the SB last year. Take that for what it is worth.

I think Murray is a really good to possibly great running back. But, I can't see us paying him much and that being a good move. RB's are too prone to get injured and the league has completely devalued the position (they hardly get drafted in the 1st round anymore). So you can always find a good alternative to Murray at a much cheaper price tag.

It's one of the things I like that Jim Harbaugh has done...get quality, tough RB's in the draft for relatively cheap value. It helps put a stop to these 'amoeba defenses' and those defenses where the pass rushers just pin their ears back every down without paying much care to sustaining their gap control.

.

YR

He is a good rb. He isn't special, let him walk and replace him.

Regardless if this franchise has been successful replacing rbs, you don't pay a back like Murray a huge contract. He is good but not irreplaceable.

I like Murray a lot, but you can't pay everybody. Especially a RB who's missed 2+ games every year of his career.

The guys saying, "Pay Murray!" will be the same guys slamming Jerry for that contract if Murray gets hurt again or doesn't live up to it.

Who said a huge contract? What I will say is, if jerry comes with lowball figure he's screwing up. I've stated before and now, why doesn't he deserve a similar contract to frank gore? That's not breaking the bank and isn't an owner's attempt to lowball a franchise type back.

Jamaal, LeSean, AP, Forte, and Lynch are the only backs that'd I'd consider obviously better then Murray. Murray is a very fine RB that a lot of fans underrate in my opinion, or may not now but did a year or two ago. Having said that, I wouldn't sign him to a contract paying him top back money. Most of the RBs that have been drafted recently have turned out to be pretty good, so I like our chances in the draft.

He'd easily have well over 2k if they used him as they SHOULD.

That's just it I don't see him as a franchise type back. Those guys get huge contracts. Jmo

Didn't stop Jerry from throwing money Romo's way without certainty of Romo never being injured again or a guarantee to take us to A Sb title. Why stop now with a productive player? Jerry didn't have any idea if Romo would ever be hurt again or if he could live up to his contract, bit it didn't stop him.

Even if we were to accept your child-like assessment that the Romo contract is bad (after one game) since when does two wrongs make a right, half-cent?

I know what you can do too, DeMarco.

Turn the ball over for a TD the other way to set the tone for the season opening loss and then get some meaningless numbers afterwards.

You can also get injured. A lot.

Pffft. Smell ya later.

You either can't read or have comprehension issues. Never once said it was a bad contract. Re-read the convo and try again when you have a full grasp of my words.
