FT: Is Jason Garrett a Top-10 coach in the NFL?

I'm not going top 10, but do believe be is top half. Which means once you get to the playoffs, you're at a disadvantage.

#ChildPlease. Romo doesnt have a ring cause he couldnt stay up right. We got Romo the best OL and the best RB in the NFL and he still couldn't stay on the field.

Gruden won a SB and Rivera has had deep playoff runs. They are MUCH better.

Interesting take. But even so, someone has to be in charge of working with the talent and determining how to use it, and the fact is, the Cowboys have won the division 2 of the last 3 years, and 3 of the last 5 years.

Damn, Jerry must have accumulated the best talent in the NFL in the last decade for that to happen despite having only the 27th best coach in the NFL.

1. 13-3 and playoff birth with a rookie 4th round rookie QB after Romo goes down for the second season in a row.
2. 9-7 with Zeke being suspended for 6 games and Tyron & Lee hurt a good part of the season.
3. 10-6 and playoff birth after Dez is let go and Witten retires unexpectedly and after starting 3-5. Also Freddie missing the entire season.

Jason IMO is one of the better coaches in the NFL the last 3 seasons; top 10 for sure if not top 5. Thoughts?

Garrett isn't the 27th best coach. I would put him around 20.

But the talent on this team is, if not top 5, then very close. The HC is the limiting factor. He's why we won't get over the top despite the excellent accrued talent.

2016 Not a really talented defense and a rookie 4th round QB that wasnt expected to start. That is why he won coach of the year in 2016 because most coaches could not do what he did.

Gruden won a super bowl almost 20 years ago. Doesn't mean anything as far as his current coaching ability.

Rivera has only made the playoffs three times and the only year he won a single playoff game was the year of the deep run. Rivera then went on to lose the Super Bowl with a 15-1 roster. So Rivera has the same amount of playoff wins as Garrett, Garrett obviously winning his more recently.

Jerry doesn't run the draft, he's GM in title only for ego purposes hence why the Cowboys haven't won anything in 23 plus years, he wouldn't know a player out of the top five...A real GM isn't a part time job!!

I like Garrett for wanting the right kind of player on and off the field and doing things the right way but Garrett's game management, clock management, redzone management, his ultra conservative play calling and the fact that over the last ten years other teams defensive players have stated numerous times they know what the cowboys run on offense by their formations makes him a bottom head coach...He's a glorified QB coach, that's what he is........

It didn't help JG's ranking that some of the trash finally got removed from the HC ranks last year. At least some of the current crop hasn't proven themselves incompetent yet.

No matter where you rank him, he simply hasn't been good enough. Gets progressively worse for anyone ranked below him.

Yea even if we win 10 or 11 games this year I have no expectations things will change in the playoffs. I have nearly a decade of history to go on.

Garrett sucks. The guy is pure garbage! Maybe Jerry will figure this out in another 20 years?! The owner and some fans love a soft football team that gets their nuts handed to them in a goody bag every January! A little parting favor!

Part of romo no having a ring was the FO not putting a team around him also.

It may be that Jason needs a change or needs to move on but that doesn't make him a bad coach. Tony Dungy had to move on from Tampa. You can count on one hand how many HC's would have been able to overcome Romo going down for an entire season in 2016 and still have just a decent team much less a contender.
