Is it possible Witten's return is going to threaten Dak and Zeke's assuming the leadership of the team?

This never occurred to me.

I think not but this debate heats up a little and Carter nearly has a meltdown.

This reminds me of the Forum debates.

:banghead:

Enjoy.

Stephen A Smith too positive.
Carter too negative.

In 2017, Witten had the 10th amount of yards. Of the top 10, he was 9th ypc, 8th for ypt, 6th for TDs, 2nd for catch%.

And the offense was w/o Zeke for 6 games, and just looked bad often.

As it is with any player, the performance of Witten upon his return will serve as a guide as to the extent that coaches utilize him in live action. What he does to prepare himself before TC will be largely under his control. There's little doubt that the offensive coaches will keep a close tab on his performance and utilize him accordingly. He's always been a self-motivated individual. I'm sure he'll attend to his preparation conscientiously. Let's just see how it goes.

Carter is 100% correct.

Whether he is correct depends on if he is right about the Cowboys targeting Witten 90 times over the season. If that’s true the Cowboys will take a step back at TE. But if, as is being reported, Witten only plays about 25 snaps a game, then Witten will not be the primary TE, and Carter will be wrong. Witten should not be the starter getting 90 targets, but as the #2 guy in a support role he would likely be an asset.

Coop, Gallup, Elliott, Hurns + a free agent or draft pick, I have high doubts even a full-time Witten would get 90 targets.

3.5 million for Witten ?

cheap ... great signing.

No it's not a good signing, Carter is 100% correct, he's 37 and he's not getting any faster....The cowboys need to stretch the field at the tigthend position, Witten doesn't do that anymore, it's not about the money!!

This is an example of a Jerry Jones horrible GM decision, Jerry should have said, thanks but no we don't want you back Wit

This what I can not stand about these shows. They speculate as Witten is coming back. Carter does not know Witten reason for leaving the broadcast booth. These shows are amateur at best anymore.

I agree. Plus I would doubt even if Witten were the starter they would bury Jarwin on the bench at this point.

This is why Jerry, the good hearted father figure is a terrible GM. We all love Jason Witten. But if you’re going to build a championship roster your GM has to be a cold blooded laser focused football man who says no to the sentimental feel good story of a guy who cannot be a better player than he was two years ago. That’s just the cold truth. Jerry apparently puts “feeling good” first.

Why would you use a part time roster spot for a 37 year old guy with zero upside? Seems like a waste. There are some really good young TEs in the FA market with upside that could have been had for the price we are paying Witten. If Witt is not going to be a “go to” guy, why the signing? To me...just my opinion...this is poor front office management.
