If Tomlin's team makes it to Houston, and we don't, critics will have a field day.

And.

If Garrett's team makes it to Houston, and they don't, critics will have a field day... probably more so if NE is the opponent.

What are the patriots doing, that is the only one that matters because they have the pedigree and the similar situation as us?

As noted by others, the difference is they don't have a first round bye in the playoffs. We're already off for 2 weeks. The only guys we need to rest the whole game are guys who are banged up. Starters should play at least a half against Philly imo.

I'm curious about what the Giants are doing. They let the Commanders into the playoffs if they rest players and the Commanders win. Barring a Lions and Packers tie.

They won't have a bye week though.
beat me to it.

very different scenarios

The only other team right now that is guaranteed a bye week is New England.
All the rest could still end up as wildcards.

(To be clear... the original post merely asserted that the critics would take this meat and publicly chew on it, if certain events transpire... not that they would be necessarily legit in doing so.)
