Full Blitz for real?

I bet we run the ball more next week. We will win that way, plain and simple.

If we want to guarantee it, we all need to complain like crazy to the DFW area press. For some reason, that has affected Garrett in the past, and on more than one occasion.

Anyone catch the Arizona vs. Philly game? Arizona got flat out blitz happy by the end of the game. It was almost funny how often they blitzed. I see no reason for them not to try the same with Dallas after this performance by the Cowboys. Make the Cowboys prove that they can consistently handle it.

They blitzed constantly and Foles didn't make them pay. They will bring the heat just like Washington did tonight. I know our line will adjust this week. With our line we should be throwing more screens.

Preaching to the choir there. It boggles the mind that Dallas hasn't been all about the screen already this season. I don't know if it's a comfort thing and they're afraid of Romo getting blown up or what, but they have the O-line and the RB to pull it of, so you'd like to think that professional football coaches could recognize that.

Next week might be the most important game of the season because you know Arizona is going to blitz every down and try to use the same game plan Washington did. If we have no clue how to counter the blitz next week, we could be in some major trouble.

Basically we are going to see teams use the same strategy against us until we show we can beat it.

AZ will blitz twice as much as the Skins...overall they are a very aggressive defense.. and their offense is gonna challenge the Cowboys DB's..all game...........not a good match up.....maybe Garrett will run the ball to control the clock......nah..thats wishful thinking....just let Romo pass it....

It falls mostly on Romo.

He didn't adjust his audibles well enough against the blitz.

Early on Romo had difficulty against the blitz. He then found ways to beat it, although it was a bit lucky with the unorthodox dump-off passes.

When Weeden came into the game, the blitzes by Washington didn't work that well. That's because Dallas would leave in more to protect Weeden and Weeden could find the hot receiver.

Then Romo comes back into the game and Romo's audibles kept having 6 (5 O-Linemen and either a RB or Witten) blocking for 7-8 pass rushers. And it was a case where we couldn't get the receivers open quick enough for the Washington blitz. Like Gruden said, Romo had a real difficult time seeing the blitz all game long.

It's one of those things where QB's in today's game really prefer the extra options with more receivers to throw to than to have extra blockers. But, we needed extra blockers in this game. Outside of the blitzes where there were more pass rushers than blockers, I don't recall Washington getting any pressure on the QB (in fact, Gruden said during the game that the only way Washington can get pressure is when they blitz).

I think Haslett has Romo's number and I think Romo needs to come up with different ways to attack Haslett. Personally, I would just add blockers and throw it up to Dez or try to get Escobar involved.

We Did beat the blitz once. Murray fumbled at the end on the long burn

Yeah, he gets to us, no doubt. I thought you were talking about the blitz in general. Haslett's always been a problem for Tony, for whatever reason.

Throw in our historic struggles against a 3/4 defense and that compounds the difficulty.

I posted this in the R-E-L-A-X thread but maybe it belongs here instead.

That's what I'm having trouble with. We've seen Haslett do this twice a year to us, and yet we still have no answers. It seems that the Giants and Eagles figured out his schemes years ago and probably the only reason he still has a job is because he does this to the Cowboys offense every game.

I just don't see any quick blitz beating plays in Garrett's/Linehan's offense. The blueprint is out there now and we better fix it quick or this season could go bad very quickly.

I remember also having this feeling in the mid to late 1990's when nearly every team started killing Aikman with the zone blitz. It was the beginning of the end for that great offense also. The Coryell passing scheme does not use a traditional screen pass and attempts to beat blitzes with deeper throws provided the blitz is picked up by the running back or tight end.

I believe that we need to get Dunbar in more on third downs and at least try to get him the ball in space a quickly as possible. It may be our only hope because Romo does not have the arm strength these days to hit the big play down field with multiple blitzers coming free.

What kills me even worse is that we've seen the Giants and Eagles take advantage of Ware rushing the QB with screen the past few seasons. So you begin to wonder, how much of this does Dallas have to see before they begin to think, "Hey... maybe we should try some more of that?"

Then again, it's taken Garrett quite a while to figure out running the ball is a good idea, and I think that was only due to Romo being hurt, the defense being bad, and the fact that they've invested 3 1st round picks in that O-line.

The way beat similar blitz by the EaGirls in 2009 was with delay draw, bubble screen and slants. This teams needs to bring those plays back.

We beat the Giants few years back with Ogletree killing them with the slant when they blitzed.

Romo usually does a really good job of reading the blitz and countering it, but for what ever reason he can't figure Haslett out. He looked like a rookie out there yesterday

Quick outs with a double tight end set is what I think I would do, but I am no pro coach.

Romo does not have the arm strength anymore to zip those quick outs with a free rusher coming after him. He has to put too much air under it and risk a pick 6. He also needs to throw grabbing the threads and sometimes you don't have time to orient the ball. The Dez TD pass last night comes to mind.

Weeden has a helluva fastball. Ball security finally bit this team in the ***.

I'd like this post more if I could. When you lose to a 2-5?team it usually takes a team effort. They rattled tony, Murray missed several blitz pickups, we were out coached , the defense missed tackle after tackle, we fumbled in the red zone and we let mc coy who was shaky at the start gain confidence as the game wore on.. Put this loss collectively on the team . It was a stinker by the entire squad.
Nothing to do but learn and move on to Arizona

Scandrick played a heck of a game and I didn't see Wilcox taking bad angles and missing tackles like everyone else on defense

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed that. He gets a lot of praise for picking up guys, but last night, he wasn't much help in that department.

Between Murray fumbling for the 1000th time and blowing his blitz pickup assignments, that contract I am offering him all of a sudden is a few digits lighter if you know what I mean.

We do ok against the Sk*ns generally. This was classic WAS/DAL. We beat each other when the other guys are good.

And we've been beating the blitz all season. AZ, I'm sure, will try it some. We just have to have Williams and Dez beat the single coverage. And we can't have our RBs blowing the protections. Make them pay heave once, and the blitz backs off. We didn't do that tonight, though.

We have to actually throw the ball to Dez and Twill for them to beat the one on one coverage. There were several times Romo could have thrown to Dez when he had one on one coverage. The outcome from those type of throws is typically good. Dez doesn't have to even be open, just get some air under it.

Murray constantly whiffed on his blitz pick-ups. He has to be more aware of where the blitz is coming from.

This was surprising - he's been great at that all year. Even on the 25 yard catch he whiffed on the guy and luckily it worked out.

I really want to hear Garrett asked about it, because Murray did nothing on multiple occasions as a pass blocker. It's possible some of that was by design with the idea of him sneaking past the front 7 for some easy yards on a dump off, but it sure seemed as if he whiffed a lot last night.
