So, whats up with Marion? Through seven games he is one funble shy of his career fumble total of his first three years. He has five fumbles in seven games and he had six total fumbles in his first three years.

Only two things have changed. The money and now the starting job. Is it now that he got his contract that he is slipping like the rest of the team? Or is the starting job more than he can handle?

I'm not saying it's either, I'm only pointing out the things that have changed.

Having cracked ribs might play a part.

just sayin,

what do you expect to happen with the increase in carries? If you look at the end of last season when his carries were going up he had 3 fumbles in 3 straight games.

What are you saying? It's acceptable because he has more carries? I don't think so. Emmitt carried more than he did and fumbling was not a part of his repertoire!

There's only one RB like Emmitt Smith and that's Emmitt. In the realm of normal RB when a RB carries goes up that means YPC goes down Fumbles and chance of Injuries go up.

Maybe, but as someone who strives for excellence, that is not an acceptable excuse.

No, there isn't just one running back like Emmitt when it comes to fumbling. There are many many running backs that do not fumble with lots of carries. Yes, it's true that with more carries comes more fumbles since it generally is a ratio deal. The problem is, the ratio isn't the same. Today he is fumbling at a rate of 4% of his carries. (at 20 carries in a game, thats almost 1 funble per game!) That is four times the rate before at 1%. If he averages 20 carries a game for 16 games that would put him at close to 13 fumbles this season. Over double the amount of total fumbles from his first three years combined.

Hah, lets not think about the fumble totals if you include Romo!!!

He's always struggling for that extra yard which leaves him susceptible to clean shots and swipes at the ball from the defense.

Why are we playing a guy with cracked ribs. Bring in Choice!!!

I don't think that is the best idea. I think Barber just needs to protect the ball better. Barber is a great player. You don't want to bench a great players. Maybe we should lower his touches get his to protect the ball better.

2005 138 carries Attempts per game 10.8
2006 135 carries Attempts per game 8.4
2007 204 carries Attempts per game 12.6
2008 128 carries Attempts per game 18.3

He is about to eclipse his carry total from 2005 and 2006 and it's only the second month in the season. He isn't a workhorse back and we are using him like that. He isn't built nor does he run to be used as a workhorse type back.

I added the fumble counts to each year and in how many games he played in that season. As you can see, he hasn't even matched the carries yet and he has already almost doubled the fumbles of the other years in pretty much half the amount of games.

I'm not trying to BBQ Barber, I was just pointing out ANOTHER issue the Cowboys have on top of all the other ones.

The fact that he is running almost twice as many times compared to 05 or 06 doesn't mean anything ?

To quadruple his rate of fumbles? No. Fumbling at that rate is unacceptable.

he been caught from behind a few time where they've only have to slap the ball out his ribs had nothing to do with those, he's turned sloppy like the rest of the team

Yeah, I expect him to be caught from behind because he isn't a burner. It's the protecting the ball (sloppiness) that I have a problem with.

I think it means he isn't a fulltime starter nor is he capable of carrying 20+ times. This is his first season carrying this much and he has been fumbling a lot.

To quadruple his rate of fumbles?
2005 - 1 fumble for every 46 carries
2006 - no fumbles
2007 - 1 fumble for every 68 carries
2008 - 1 fumble for every 25.6 caries

That means he has doubled his fumble rate of his worst year not quadrupled.
