My wife's family is huge but none of them are sports fans. I always end up watching football by myself and someone always wants to make sure I'm not miserable all alone. Hell, I love the peace and quiet.

So I'm all alone in my brother-in-law's bedroom watching the game and my nephew's 7 year old son Zach comes in the room. He said, "can I watch the game with you?" I said sure.

He was excited. So I told him that we needed to root for the team in blue.

He says, "that's the Dallas Cowboys baby."

I laughed and he was pleased. So his Mom comes looking for him about 5 minutes later and she says, "Zach, are you bothering Uncle Mike?"

I said, "he's watching the game with me."

Zach replied, "the Cowboys rock mom."

When everyone was leaving he says goodbye to me and says, "that was fun, let's do it again."

Kid is a crack up.

Haha, good story. Now you need to have him for all the games. :)

Kid needs a Romo jersey from his uncle for Christmas.
You know, I'd like to do something like that for Zach. He's a good kid.

If I have anything to say about it he is. I intend to follow through on this. He showed an interest.

...way to spark some interest than by getting involved with Santa's Sleigh and seeing some Cowboys gear heading his way.

It will give him a sense of belonging to a team and it can also be something that belongs to the two of you as you both watch Turkey Day games from here on after.

My oldest son is a Falcons fan, the youngest son a Chargers fan and my daughter follows after her mother and couldn't care less. I envy you and your nephew.

Almost every one of us has a story like that growing up, a game that we watched with a family member that really turned us into lifelong fans. I think you just converted another, keep preaching brother. :D

Zach has 2 brothers (1 older, 1 younger) and a sister. I need to do something for them too, but it will be Zach I'm doing this for.

Man, next to the win, that was the best part of the day.

That's a great story, Hos. I had a similar day. My family are all Cowboys fans, but nobody wants to be anywhere near me because I'm usually stroking out in front of the TV and struggling to keep my comments PG-13.

Not that I haven't tried. A few weeks ago, when Vandy was lining up for the game-winning kick against the Commanders, I had my family of five hold hands and cross fingers for luck. You all know how that turned out...

But today, about midway thru the second quarter, my 2-year-old son climbed into my lap and watched the game for a few minutes before falling asleep. We kicked back in the recliner and didn't move for the rest of the game. By the time it was over, the whole family and my in-laws were cheering in front of the TV and I couldn't help but note what a refreshing game/day it was. Here's hoping for more runaway victories!

I think that was way better than my story. I always loved it when one of my daughters fell asleep in my arms. The most comforting feeling in the whole world.

My brother-in-law whose house we staged this 52 person event at is a professional magician and juggler. Unofortunately he's in the middle of a nasty divorce. Before Zach came in he did and asked me if it was a drag being married into a family that isn't into sports. I admitted that sometimes it is. I think Zach made up for a lot of years of being alone enjoying the games. I wish he had come in earlier.

I can't wait for Christmas now. That's the next time I'll see Zach and there is a game. I want to tell him about the players. Maybe give him a jersey as suggested.

I just thought it was cool that he knew which team we were and told his Mom they rock. This kid has had a bit of a rough start to his life, but my nephew has really made a huge difference since he adopted him and married his Mom.

I was seven when I became a 'Boys fan.

Looks like your nephew may have a similar memory.

Hold on to this one. Do not let him go to the Dark Side.

I was 6 when I did, but 7 when I started learning the game.
