Considering the type of offense we run, I'm extremely happy with the way TO has performed this year.
People forget that TO excelled in San Fran and Philly because those teams run a West Coast offense. That system is designed for players like TO to excel.
Yes he has had some costly drops this season, but when you look at his numbers and production he is doing his job. Whenever he is on the field opposing defenses have to account for him and not many receivers in the NFL can do that.
Think about for one minute what TO's numbers might be had Romo been the starter all season. Bledsoe practically ignored every receiver we have except Glenn, and now that Romo is in Witten, TO, Crayton, and even Fasano have contributed to our success.
TO is doing the job he was brought in here to do, has stopped running his mouth, and is helping this team win. Bottom line.
Great post, it makes a lot of sense, but you are still going to have some that won't agree with you.
When I see he is credited with having 11 or 12 drops, I take into consideration 2-3 drops in the two games that he played with a broken bone in his hand. (the one where he broke it at the beginning, and the one he played in just after his surgery, ... which is admirable in itself) Those were drops, but I give a receiver a pass if he has a broken bone in his hand. I have had that bone broken in my left hand and I can't imagine someone firing a football at me expecting me to catch it.
Plus I take into consideration 2-3 alledged drops over the past 3 games that I don't consider "drops". (two that were behind him and at his ankles, and one so high that he went up as high as he could and even had to twist his body to even touch)
So to me, he has had around 7 "true dropped passes" that made me mad and that I felt he should have caught.
But with the number of balls thrown his way, the number that he has caught, and the receiving stats he has put up, I agree with skOal,
"TO is doing the job he was brought in here to do, has stopped running his mouth, and is helping this team win. Bottom line."
