and some just want TO to stop dropping balls at critical times

such as in the endzone

I think this is why some don't realize what a good statistical year he is having. If he could have hung onto a few more passes, like the 70 yarder in Wash, he would be having an increadible year. I think this is about what we are going to get though. Hope it is enough!

Considering the type of offense we run, I'm extremely happy with the way TO has performed this year.

People forget that TO excelled in San Fran and Philly because those teams run a West Coast offense. That system is designed for players like TO to excel.

Yes he has had some costly drops this season, but when you look at his numbers and production he is doing his job. Whenever he is on the field opposing defenses have to account for him and not many receivers in the NFL can do that.

Think about for one minute what TO's numbers might be had Romo been the starter all season. Bledsoe practically ignored every receiver we have except Glenn, and now that Romo is in Witten, TO, Crayton, and even Fasano have contributed to our success.

TO is doing the job he was brought in here to do, has stopped running his mouth, and is helping this team win. Bottom line.

Great post, it makes a lot of sense, but you are still going to have some that won't agree with you.

When I see he is credited with having 11 or 12 drops, I take into consideration 2-3 drops in the two games that he played with a broken bone in his hand. (the one where he broke it at the beginning, and the one he played in just after his surgery, ... which is admirable in itself) Those were drops, but I give a receiver a pass if he has a broken bone in his hand. I have had that bone broken in my left hand and I can't imagine someone firing a football at me expecting me to catch it.

Plus I take into consideration 2-3 alledged drops over the past 3 games that I don't consider "drops". (two that were behind him and at his ankles, and one so high that he went up as high as he could and even had to twist his body to even touch)

So to me, he has had around 7 "true dropped passes" that made me mad and that I felt he should have caught.

But with the number of balls thrown his way, the number that he has caught, and the receiving stats he has put up, I agree with skOal, "TO is doing the job he was brought in here to do, has stopped running his mouth, and is helping this team win. Bottom line."

but when I saw the receiving number today, he was something like fourth (or was it third) in the NFL amongst wide receivers with everyone's favourite number as the number of catches he has made so far this year. I guess to whom more is given, more is expected.

How he conducts himself and his play are 2 different things. Yes he is a very good ball player however that is not a free pass in how he conducts himself as a member of a team. You seem to indicate that as long as he ranks at the top his action and behavior means nothing. Myself I have seen too many star players who can control their mouth and their actions and to me I think a lot more of them at players than I do guys like TO,

and of course the drops loom large even tho not a one has cost us a game.

The drop on fourth down in the first Giants game hurt bad.
The drop in the Commanders game also.
I know you can't blame those losses directly on TO but had he made those two easy catches the Cowboys most likely win those games.
On the other side of the coin. He has made a few real tough catches in heavy traffic on third down that were not big gainers but did move the chains.

Parcells himself laughingly said in his interview on Monday that he had just run the players a long time, that they were really winded, and that he didn't figure all of them really heard his speech. He was chuckling when he said it.

It turns out Owens was one of the ones that Parcells was referring to.

What is this big deal now ?

I think it's because alot of people are still pissed about the 'star incident'

get over it people!

and a small percentage who don't like how TO has acted, which is understandable

Old news.

I haven't heard anyone mention The Star Incident on this board in a long time.

And board members who dislike Owens immensley, dont have to go back to 2000 for ammo against this guy, there is plenty of it in 2006, real or perceived.

The drop on the long ball against the skins probably would have won the game since it would have put us up two TD's. However, we can't know that for sure because we all remember the skins scoring two TD's against us in a matter of minutes late in the 4th qtr in a previous game.

That drop was in the 3rd qtr, so there was still a lot of time left, so we have no guarantee that a catch would have won the game, but odds are it would have. It was a huge drop none the less, and although I can't say for sure, I feel we would have won had we scored there.

The drop in Giants game was around their 40 or 35 yd line or so I believe, so nobody can say without a doubt that we would have scored there, or that the drop cost us the game.

We just don't know that.

I'd love to hear Parcells ripping on TO and the LBs who went to his party in practice this week. It's got to be entertaining.

Is it fair, or the right thing to do to use "perceived ammo" against anyone ?

I'm not convinced that will even happen.

I am thinking that the absolutely last thing on Parcells mind is Owens birthday party.

Maybe I'm wrong.

See this is a difficult question.

Let's take Owens' recent interview for instance as an example.

I didnt see it, so I am force to formulate my own opinion based on what people are saying.

When some people saw the interview they thought he was joking.

When another group of people saw it, they thought he was serious.

So which group has the real or pereived opinion?

Unfortunately, in life, you never look at everything in a vacuum, so you have to take the guys' history into account.

Please. All the quotes we hear about him ripping on Tony. "Oh, I forgot - you're a superstar now." and all that stuff. You know he knows everything about his team, and I can see him delivering some zingers to those guys in practice if they slip up on a play. :)

I guess I'm wrong then, ... but I just can't see him bringing up Owens birthday bash in L.A. myself.

We'll probably never know.

We get snippets sometimes, if someone tells a reporter. They're generally hilarious.

Yeah... you know... looking back... I am glad that Tony has a loss on his record(I did saying "looking back" cause he's 5-1 now)... we have a chance to run the table... I dont want to go into playoffs with Romo having NO losses... so that one may be a blessing... plus the pressure the skins put on him helped him alot... he started to learn how to deal with pressure...

:hammer:

BP said in the offseason/TC that TO was not going to catch 100 balls in this offense...

Well, if you add 6 more catches (from the drops or more looks from Romo) he's on pace for exactly that through 12 games.

Even BP didn't think TO would be this involved. That has to say something.
