Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Furboy's mock drafts, the thread where I do a mock draft to share with you all what picks I think will improve this team. As I've started to do, I do one without any trades, and then I do one with a trade. At some point, I'll probably do one where I have a second trade. Anyway, in the trade below, I got a trade from the Cardinals who traded up to the 10th pick. In exchange, I got their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. As is standard for me, I will provide a video for each player if I can find one and, if I can't, a link that has a scouting report for one of the players. Also, I hope my explanations give you a laugh. Heeeere it is!

Round 1 Pick 16 (ARI): Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech (A)

Caleb Farley 6'2 and 207 lbs. For those of you that have read my last few mock drafts, you already know my take on this player haha. Moving on haha.

Round 2 Pick 12: Trevon Moehrig, FS/SS, TCU (A)

Trevon Moehrig 6'2" and 202 lbs. Best safety in the draft is now ours muahahahaha! This player fits a huge need at safety for us with a monster of a player.

Round 2 Pick 17 (ARI): Jay Tufele, DT, USC (A)

Jay Tufele 6'3" and 305 lbs. As with Farley, you probably know my take on this player by now.

Round 3 Pick 11: Dylan Moses, ILB/OLB, Alabama (A+)

Dylan Moses 6'3 and 235 lbs. In fairness, not my favourite LB at this spot, but Cox was taken so this was my choice here. Dylan Moses is an excellent LB in his own right, and we need a lot of help at LB. He fills a big need.

Round 3 Pick 15 (ARI): Baron Browning, ILB/OLB, Ohio State (A+)

Baron Browning 6'3 and 240 lbs. Well, I got a Bama LB, so why not a Buckeye one as well? Both played in the National Championship haha. In all seriousness, doubling up at LB here fills our LB needs with two excellent LBers in a row. Moses and Browning should really help us with our run defence issues. Browning is also good in coverage which is important in this league.

Round 3 Pick 35 (COMP): Ar'Darius Washington, FS/SS, TCU (A+)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYomPsNW3TU&t=69s
Ar'Darius Washington 5'8 and 178 lbs. Not exactly the tallest prospect, but can't pass up the talent here. We have issues at safety, so why not add another excellent safety at this spot? 2 safeties and 2 LBs in the draft? Yes please! We need that!

Round 4 Pick 10: Chris Rumph II, DE/OLB, Duke (A+)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJs17Y9LN0I
6'3" and 236 lbs. We do need help at DE, especially if we don't manage to keep Aldon Smith. Rumph gives us a good DE at this spot who can harass the QB.

Round 4 Pick 33 (COMP): Kary Vincent Jr, CB, LSU (A+)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyPsF9rzRQY
Kary Vincent Jr. 5'10" and 189 lbs. Kary Vincent JR not only plays football for LSU, but he also apparently plays track for them. In the video I posted, he matched up against CD Lamb among other excellent players for Oklahoma. Possible slot CB for us, especially with his speed.

Round 5 Pick 34 (COMP): Adrian Ealy, OT, Oklahoma (A+)
https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/adrian-ealy/iRPB21DhOa
Adrian Ealy 6'6.5" and 326 lbs. Adrian Ealy would be a developmental DT, but what struck me in the link I posted is that Draft Network sees him as a zone blocking scheme-style OT. This is something that we do well. The 5th round is a good spot to pick up a player like Ealy imo. This will be the offensive player that I take in this mock draft.

Round 6 Pick 8: Elerson Smith, DE/OLB, Northern Iowa (A+)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8w4IgQCWJ8
Elerson Smith 6'7" and 245 lbs. Massive DE!!! Not a well known DE, but, what I saw in the video in the link from the Senior Bowl practices was a player who uses his height very well and is quite quick. He's the sort of player that we could use to knock the ball down. Really would make a nice rotational player. He could use development, but he's got good skills that I think will serve him well.

Round 6 Pick 41 (COMP): Tay Gowan, CB, Central Florida (A+)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgFXD_WNt-U&t=42s
Tay Gowan 6'2" and 185 lbs. Very underrated CB who would be a steal here. He'd compete well with Anthony Brown for his spot. He's not afraid to tackle either from what I've seen, so he's someone that I definitely would like us to have.

Round 7 Pick 10: Damar Hamlin, FS/SS, Pittsburgh (A+)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=497CUlC9mDE&t=38s
Damar Hamlin 6'1" and 195 lbs. Hard hitting safety from what I saw in the video! Good safety against the run, hits the WRs hard, and really looks the part of a strong safety. Haven't had a good one of these since Roy Williams. He looks to hit about as hard as Roy Williams as well as I watch him. He's what I think we WANTED Xavier Woods to be. I know he's the 3rd safety that I took, but this would be quite the safety to pick up. (Sidenote, I apologise for the music in the video, I'll adjust it to a link if preferred. It was the best and most recent video that I could find of Hamlin).

I know I went very heavy on defence, but hey, we need a lot of help there. Thoughts?

Pretty darn good draft/ The one thing that worries me about Farley is his health. He just cant seem to stay on the field. He will be going up against some bigger and stronger players.
Trevon is an excellent pick as well as Jay I like that you went back and double dip with Washington. Love Moses and Browning Give me those picks and I will call it a day! :)

Trade is highly unrealistic, the Cardinals aren't going to overpay for an non-QB. On top of that, Farley or any corner probably not going to be there at 16. Farley is considered a top 10 pick and has yet to run, when that happens his stock is going to rise even further. Moehrig is being considered a top 20 player in the draft on several big boards, he is unlikely to get out of the 1st rd.

Yeah, it probably is. However, with the way the trade played out, I obviously had to take the offer. I'd love it if the draft worked like that.

Thankies. I actually didn't know that about Farely's health. If he's not on the board, I've also voted with drafting Surtain. He will probably be featured in a later mock. I hope the draft goes this way. I think this style of draft fixes the defence in one draft. Also, as far as safety, don't sleep on Damar Hamlin. I think he's probably going to move up the board. He's a bit of a throwback safety in the sense that he hits hard and often. He'll need to be more controlled in the NFL with the rules the way they are, but, if he can time it right, he is a thumper like Roy Williams was.

I have done the trade scenarios, 20/21 gets you an additional 2nd/3rd, but we have to give up our 4th. That would be for a QB, not for a non-QB as you are suggesting.

I'd be ok with that trade as long as we gave up the comp 4th pick. That would give us more firepower imo, and I'd probably take Moehrig with that pick.

I'm looking at trade back players that would be legitimately available in that 18-21 range. Adding an additional 2nd rd pick, but also getting a 3rd probably not happening unless multiple teams are bidding for a QB.

Well, and I do think that was will happen. I think Pittsburgh would be a team that might along with the Raiders, the Patriots might, and I see New Orleans getting in on the bidding war.

I’ve heard Moehrig in the 20’s in a lot of these drafts. Don’t think he’s getting out of the 1st. I like your idea in your other draft of his teammate Washington although McClay loves him some long athletic dudes.

McClay needs to change however pick good players.

I agree with you. McClay needs to adjust his mindset. Size isn't everything there is to great players. Washington is a short safety, but he's a great player.

You are assuming that a QB is there at 10, which is looking less likely each day. It's going to be very hard to trade back this year. Not sure anyone would move up for a Pitts/Waddle or one of the Tackles to jump ahead of the Giants. All the projections have the Cowboys either taking a Corner or Slater.

Well, Farley or Surtain at 10 it is for me.

Farley is clearly the better player and if his medical tests out ok on his back issue he would make our defense better. He tore his AC I believe in 2018 but He seems to have recovered from that. His back had been giving him trouble in the 2019 season and he missed the last few games. He also had back surgery after that and he opt out of the 2020 season because he lost his mother to cancer and didnt want to expose his father to Covid. I believe he has been training though in Calif. Maybe him taking that time off and doing rehab has helped his back and you couldnt root for a better guy. He reminds me a lot of Patrick Peterson in his hay day. At his Pro day if he blows the 40 up he will be gone before 10.If he is still there at 10 I would have a very hard time passing on him.
I dont know that much about Damir but I know that Pitt had one heck of a defense!

I did not know that about Farley. As for Damar, I like the fact that he hits like Roy Williams.

The biggest thing is he’s not very likely to be at 16
A trade of 10 for a first, second and third might get my attention but if you go CB at 16 it would most likely be 3-4 best CB you’d get

Well, that probably puts Surtain with us at that spot which isn't the worst thing in the world either. Surtain's a good CB as well.
