We are the third youngest team in the league and have 8 players in the top hundred, more than any other team. I know some of you don't like the quarterback (I do!) but we have a great running back (he will sign), great WR, two great LBs, a great offensive line and a young hungry defense, that was amazing last year and has a year more experience this year. Not a fan of the coach but I'll give him a chance not to mess it up. I give the front office mad kudos for putting this squad together by good drafting and not overpaying on free agency.
We are set up to be contenders for many years if we can sign our top players as their contracts come up. I know that's a big if but it's possible with some creative financing.
I live in Eagle country and all I hear is how stacked they are this year and, this may be true, but they are an older team and better get it done in the next couple years or it'll be too late. I feel that we are just as stacked as any team in the league and our window is open alot wider than those teams. It is a great time to be a Cowboys fan and I feel that we will definitely win a Lombardi in the next few years.
Now I know that you naysayers will be quick to point out Garrett and Dak but I choose to say the glass is half full. I am gonna enjoy this run. This season can be special. Can't wait!

What’s amazing with all of this talent is we were basically one player away last year from a 8-8 record or worse sitting at 3-5.

While we do have some young up an coming talent and a veteran OL we still have some weaknesses in key areas.

One which we addressed in mid season with a trade that not only saved the season but possibly our QB’s future. I can’t help but wonder what an influx of sorts would impact our positions shorter on talent like QB, S and DT.

Many of these other overall lesser talented teams are being elevated by a more Elite QB, greater coaching and defenses which disrupt opposing elite QB’s .

Fortunately we’ve assembled enough talent to remain relevant and contend for division and playoffs if we can maintain the Elite supporting cast around our QB and a top 10 defense.

We’ll see how far this core of talent takes us but few teams are winning championships without a more Elite QB or defense. I’d say the Future is Now before the Salary Cap begins ripping it apart like it currently threatens to.

Garrett will screw it up!

Future looked bright in 2007 too. We'll see.
And that’s a great example. The last time we’d assembled a pretty talented roster. In just a couple seasons that Window had closed.

You have to continue to draft well year after year in Cap era. One or two misses early in draft a couple years can set you back.

It's like watching the same movie over and over again. lol
True but this rerun begun before Garrett was here.

We had more experienced coaching with Phillips, Parcells, and even Gailey and Campo who didn’t fare any better.

I’d argue despite his coaching flaws we’re in a better place. No doubt we’re talent dependent but if it can take us to the brink of a championship appearance it’s probably not as bad as we think.

It’s just not going to win games without the talent. Which is true for most of the league. Unfortunately coaching isn’t a high priority for our ownership.

It didn't take long for some more Dak bashing, Greg. Right on cue. :confused:o_O:rolleyes:

And why is that Greg? Please explain.

Because the Cap will tear it apart as it’s already threatening to do.

We knew with our Rookie sensations we had probably about a 5 year window before Cap implications begun tearing into it. Elliott is threatening to rip it apart sooner than we thought. And why the Future Is Now.

True. All thanks to key players suddenly getting super greedy. They are sending the message to all that top position league pay is more important to them than taking a little less in order to keep the team together and be able to reach and win a championship or two.

That’s the nature of the NFL. There’s no loyalty anymore in this league.

I’m not sure why fans get so fussy about players acting in their best interest. Ownership would cut or trade them if they thought it was in their best interest.

We must always remember the NFL is business first not just a game.

True.

Jerry and Stephen need to be firm and tell Zeke his time is coming...next year. If Zeke renegs, let him sit in Cabo and keep accumulating a fine for every day missed.

“Next years champs”

Meanwhile teams like Pats and Rams and Saints understand what it’s about

They sign whoever will improve them and win

NE, yes
Rams, had 2 winning seasons in a row now, and only got to the SB because of a bad PI that was not called. But those will say they made it to the NFCCG in their 2nd year with McVay, so yes there is that.
Saints, well, after their SB, 2 years of winning, 4 of the next 5 years they went 7-9, then 2 years of winning, and should have went to the SB.

So it's not quite like they been winning for 10 or 15 years straight.

But I do understand what you are saying. Coaching does and can make a huge difference. Time to put up or move on to the next coach, tired of seeing talent wasted.

It is what it is. Daks intangible assets brings an element we can win with if surrounded with enough elite talent. That’s fine until the Cap starts ripping it apart.

Then he’ll need to carry us further. I’m afraid this is as good of support as we’ll be able to offer.

All QB’s need a supporting cast but it’s what they do with it that sets them apart. Hopefully he’ll do more with it in the near future.

I’m ok with that decision as long as we’re prepared for the consequences.

My concern is with a talent dependent franchise it doesn’t increase our chances letting Elite talent go. And I’m not sure it helps our opportunity to win now.

But if we’re truly serious about extending him next year then 1 year shouldn’t make a real difference if it means compromising our ability to win moving forward.

My thinking is if we don’t extend him now then we probably didn’t have intentions next year and probably why Elliott is forcing the issue as he suspects as such.

some up and coming wr's could lessen the pain of losing cooper if a deal can't be reached. possibly even at rb should pollard and weber live up to expectations. don't want to lose zeke, but that might be beyond our control. but if we were to lose dak, we'd be screwed. just isn't anyone on the team even remotely capable of filling in for him. it used to be a great thing watching a draft pick develop into a star. but now if they do, you can't count on affording them the second go around.
