True, We have youth and one of the youngest teams that should be a set foundation for years to come. We have talent and playmakers and upcoming players developing and look forward to, on BOTH sides of the ball.
1) Zeke is the lead guy and the is tone we set on offense. It’s predicated off his presence.
2) The other is Prescott, the entire organization is sold and committed to him as a player and leader.
I saw a stat on NFL Network that Dak since he’s been in the league has the 2nd most wins by a starting QB (behind Brady) so the intangibles are there.
3) The process was placing as many playmakers around Dak as possible and keep building on the OL in front of him. We’re seeing that happening with Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Jarwin and speed role guys such as Pollard, Johnson, Davis, etc.
And we are still adding blockers like the two Connors in the last two years. We are also assembling a good net of backups. Have to keep an eye on those two starting OTs though. Smith to stay healthy- Lael to be more consistent (he still acts like he doesn’t know how to use his hands well)
4) Now it seems it’s about placing the best coaches around him that can best exploit his skill level. At this time that coach seems to be Kellen moore, Jon Kitna and Doug Mussneheir (sp)
What they get out of Garrett in addition is an extra luxury, imo.
5) the nucleus of the defense is the LBs in LVE and Jaylon. What we get out of oft-injured sean lee is a luxury (I don’t think he makes it thru the season) if the backups can hold, that will help greatly.
I think we have promise and potential and we seem to be at our top at home, but we still don’t have enough top pass rushers and ball hawks, we don’t get enough turnovers, we don’t
have enough sacks, pressure disruption vs pass , and we have too many leaks vs run when we get on the road., and we have to get teams off field on 3rd downs.
Our CBs don’t make INTs and safeties were just decent- There’s still much room for improvement.
But we do seem to be faring better, more competitive against top QBs ala Brees, Wilson, Wentz, Stafford and Matt Ryan. We’ll see more vs Brady, Rodgers and again Brees in 19.
- Simply put, I want to this defense to be dominant – beyond just one or two stand out games- and I’d like to see it most on the road. Not just a unit that only plays downhill to the defense.
There were times where defense carried team in several games And held together vs some top teams (ala saints, seattle playoff, philly, ATL) for eventual offense pull out.
6) We are not settled on special teams, the kicker is too up and down, and not always clutch in final seconds. punter Chris jones needs to rebound in the return game it’s a wait and see,
. but there are big play guys like Pollard, Austin, Cobb and maybe Davis may give us a boost in return game.
And we still have too many breakdowns on special teams coverage.
