Happy to hear your more careful viewing gives more credit to Green and Swaim. At the end of the game I'd thought they were an unmitigated disaster.

Nice write up, only thing I disagree about is Chaz. I thought he was bad, and based off one preseason game, I wouldn't want to put Romo's health in his hands.

He wasn't an issue in the first half against better talent, then got worse as he tired in the second. Dude hasn't played a game in two years.

Swaim dropped the passes but did everything else to a reasonable level. I don't think he will have a game dropping easy passes like that again. The one catch he did make was much harder than te ones he dropped.

Irving was ok, he got stoned several times especially when he was trying his spin move. He is so lanky and tall that it looks awkward. He wasn't very quick on the snap either. He definitely has a role but not sure he can be a consistent pass rusher.

Offense dealt with a blitzing Rams team and had mixed results. Was interesting to see both QB use the Wilson style read option even if the options selected to this point were vanilla.

The OL started out well and was assisted by short drops and quick decisions from Dak. As the game wore on the protection dwindled and Showers was running for his life.

Dak was money. His accuracy continues to impress me. So far he places the ball better than Romo does and that is saying something. His mechanics seem much more comfortable out of the shotgun. Every pass from under C was play action and/or rollouts; I want to see regular 3 and 5 step drops. That being said he would hit that back foot and the ball would be out. Helps that his first options were giving him easy reads. Still it was nice to see him throw to the middle of the field, place the ball well and execute when he can see pressure bearing down. Also of note was his ability to run the play fake. I was fooled twice and so was the defense and camera man. All in all a very auspicious beginning.

Very nice post.

Nice write-up.

Dak looked great throwing the ball. There's not a lot of anticipation needed on these plays in preseason, but his footwork and release mechanics were spot on and it showed. He threw the ball well on the screens and rollouts. He was placing the ball better than Romo, but it's just 1 game so I wouldn't think he's more accurate than Romo. But, I like his mechanics on the screen passes much better than Romo.

Compared to Showers, it says that they are the same hieght, but Dak stands taller in the pocket. I was very pleased with Showers' progress. I wasn't all that nutty about him last year, but he's a much different QB this year. However, you can see how his lack of experience and lack of playing against top competition has hurt him. At this point, I'm all for keeping Showers at the #3 spot. We'll see how he progresses throughout preseason and if my mind changes from there.

I agree on Green. I actually thought he played well in the first half. The penalties were crap (the officiating was terrible). In the 2nd half, Seau started to dominate himd.

What concerned me most about the defense was the tackling. People can say what they want, but there are good tackling teams out there and each of the last year's playoff teams tackled far better than the Cowboys did last year. We just don't seem to practice it right as the Seahawks supposedly can practice tackling without pads and without injuries and are the best tackling team in the league.

The depth on this team concerns me and that may cause Showers to miss the 53 man roster.

Most fresh out of college QBs will. Very few traditional offenses left there. BTW this looks like it must have taken at least an hour to write.

Some NFL analyst. I just thought his tweet was funny. Not sure how you couldn't be impressed with Prescott's first NFL game action.
Last night was supposed to be the Goff show and our defense shut him down and Dak stole the show. Everyone wanted to be talking about Goff but with the way Dak played it forces them to make a choice of giving Dak his due or putting extra effort to find something wrong.

It was a great plan Linehan and the rest of coaching staff came up with to acclimate Dak to his first NFL action and establish a comfort level early on for him. The biggest thing thing that stood out to me, and this has been discussed by others repeatedly, is his poise and command. Dak was out their directing multiple pro-bowlers in "his huddle" and looked perfectly comfortable doing so. He certainly didn't look like a rookie out there. It just speaks to his leadership skills and character as whole. Needless to say, he acquitted himself well by anyone's standards for his first outing.

While this true
The key is that he was able to execute the plan

Good start for the young man

The defense was scary at tackling and the Cowboys said the other day they won't be doing any more live tackling...I hope they change their mind because they were awful. What is sad is that they had guys in position to make plays for short gains or even losses but they repeatedly missed them.

Enjoyable read.

Brad Sham mentioned last night a couple times that one of the scouts told him James Morris is a mini Sean Lee. Not sure how to take that but has to be a positive going forward for a team that needs linebackers.

have to Imagine the team is frustrated with Damien Wilson. The guy might have wasted his second season in the nfl, hard to figure out where he will get an opportunity to play Since Durant will be an active player on gamedays and nzochea will be hard to keep off the gameday roster.

It's fun to hear, but even mini-Sean Lees don't aren't available on the street. He did look pretty good, though. We're going to have some interesting calls to make on the defensive cut downs.

I'm thrilled with how Nzeocha looked. If he can take that SAM position from Wilber, that's another decent upgrade for us. If Wilson shot himself in the foot, errr, eye, that's a shame because he has potential, but at least it's looking like we might have options at LB, at least.

"So far he places the ball better than Romo"

I stopped reading right there. Hyperbole and "made up" crap is the norm in today's society though, so no biggie.

Amazing post Fuzzy.

Thanks for taking the time to put it all together.

Fuzzy takes a lot of crap from guys who've never demonstrated a grasp of football that holds a candle to the write ups he does post game. He deserves more credit than he gets for these.

That's not to say those guys can't do what Fuzzy did here. I'd love to see them give it a shot. We could use more great content.

Until that happens though, I just remind myself it's easier to throw a turd than it is to build a decent argument.
