I kinda have to think that Folk did that on purpose on the opening kickoff. He kicked it out of bounds and gave the Bears great field position. After that point we kicked to Hester and he went nowhere. i know during the preseason i was a bit concerned about our ST but they really seem to be coming together. Other than Folk flubbing the squib and the interior line allowing the FG to be blocked our ST were excellent. When you have Hester muffing multiple kicks you have to know that the ST won this battle.

As far as our defense is concerned, i love how we are still stout against the run and as our guys get more comfortable in their technique its only going to get better. Im definitely starting to think people in general dont pay attention to the line on defense and then depend on the stat sheets to assess how they played. All three of our starting linemen have been playing well consistently getting a puch and pressuring both the run and pass.

DeMarcus Ware will probably not see single blocking for the rest of the season after beating Tait pretty well but what impressed me most was how strong he is against the run. You can try to wall him off but if he gets his mitts on the ball carrier its over and your not going to have much success moving him out of the way.

Spencer is definitely coming along nicely . The Bears tried running at him in the first half and Spencer made plays. You could see on that stunt with him playing DE in the nickel that he is cat quick and his future is bright. Better get those shades ready Anthony.

Our defensive backs need to play press coverage and stop with those soft zones. i remember one play in particular where we didnt have the best pass rush yet our guys were in press coverage and the coverage was good. i get the impression that they were all playing less conservatively up until Newman got hurt and switching to the soft zones was a last minute change. We played tighter in the second half and it payed off. i think as the coaching staff gets more comfortable with these guys and Newman comes back and things will look better. Oh and BTW when was the last time where you can remember us getting 4 TOs or more for two games in a row?

On offense all i have to say is that we have arrived. We were excellent last season but we have taken it to another level this season. Thats without T Glenn. i know that a lot of people are going to bag on Jones but he got robbed by phantom penalties. Bigg Davis was flagged for drive blocking the DT on what should have been a big gainer and Witten throwing his shoulder into a defenders shoulder is not a clip. Thats about 50 yards off his stat sheet. Barber of course is excellent but im just waiting for Jones to bust out in similar fashion. Hes running hard and running well.

Our passing game was outstanding. Garrett pulled TO as an Hback out of the bag and we killed Chicago with it all night long. Witten got mileage out of the middle of the field and we got contributions from all of our other receivers.
it was funny wed get a couple of completions in a row and id be thinking wed just gotten in Chicago territory and the realize that we were at the 10. Explosive is not the word for this offense. Overwhelming is a lot closer to the button.

The only thing that i can think of at this point is how frigging good we are going to be in the second half of the season. We know that we are getting Tank in Novemeber and its going to be around that timeframe that we are going to be getting Ellis and Glenn back. Newman looks to be back already and were going to need him against Holt, Bruce and the desperate Rams.

:bravo: Every week, we hear teams saying they will stop Witten from going up the middle but it never happens. Great read.

Nice post Fuzzy... I am not a patient man so waiting on this defense is a bit of a torture for me but I like our chances if/when we get the defense buttoned up

Add Glenn to this mix, and if JJ can come along a bit, wow.

This OL is dominating teams, it wears them down so much.

On defense, just having Ellis suited up is going to help the morale. Having Newman full time won't hurt either.

Agree on Jones ! Garrett has figured out how to use him , and he'll be a major weapon on screens and in the flat . He's an excellent compliment to Barbarossa .

I'd like to see more Hurd, but seeing Witten and TO running down the field works for me too.
