Barber speaks

After making the Pro Bowl in 2007, being given a seven-year, $45 million contract in the offseason and the starting job for the first time heading into 2008, Cowboys running back Marion Barber had hoped for a real coming out party last season.

But that was before he played through injuries for much of the year, including a painful dislocated toe that limited him to 23 carries over the final five games of the season.

Barber rushed for just 865 yards, averaged a career low 3.5 yards per carry and scored just seven touchdowns after 24 the previous two seasons.

He also had to deal with the ignominy of having owner Jerry Jones question his toughness when he didn't suit up for a game against the Steelers in December.

Barber, who is defined by his barbaric running style, declined to talk about Jones' statement. But he acknowledged that it was the most difficult season of his career.

"It was frustrating," the normally soft spoken Barber said.

"But you have to learn to deal with it come back stronger."

Stronger and better than ever is what Barber plays to be this season. He said he is healthy and feeling like himself again.

"'I feel great...I can't even describe it," Barber said. "That's how good I feel. I am just looking forward to playing and playing like myself."

Who you calling cupcake?

Camp cupcake ?

Not anymore.

A circus atmosphere?

Save for the mascot Rowdy and tight end Martellus Bennett's late night video steaming, the Cowboys have been all business.

All football.

Quarterback Tony Romo said the business like approach is serving the Cowboys well one week into training camp.

The Cowboys have gotten rid of all of the distractions (TO) and are just focusing on football.

"Yeah, that’s been the approach since we started this thing way back when," Romo said. "A lot of the things we are doing, it’s just football. It’s always been football but from the perception standpoint I’m sure that wasn’t but we’ve just been doing that."

Romo said camp has been demanding mentally and physically. Sunday was the second day of three straight days of two a day practices.

He said grueling workouts are just what the Cowboys needed, considering the real or imagined perceptions of them being a soft team.

Romo said the Cowboys have responded well.
"I’m not saying anything more than it’s been football all day every day and that’s been fantastic for the guys who love football and I think we have a lot of guys like that on the team," Romo said. "I just think it’s been something that this team is excited about. We did it in minicamp a lot more than I ever have been associated with. The OTAs were very demanding physically compared to years in the past. I think that’s shown in some of the execution since we’ve been here.”

Who you calling cupcake?

Camp cupcake ?
)

Thats the most overused phrase in Media. I still don't get it. If the camp was the reason that cowboys were bad last year, it should have shown up beggining of the season and not end of season.

Besides, BP's "Tough" camps produced the same fade outs. At some point, its the players people and not Camp. I think if anything, Cowboys players not tough enough Mentally. And thats been the problem and never them not being physically tough.

If they do something this year, it will still be players mainly. And coaching will help, if the approach of accountability theme is mantained throughout the season, as it seems to be so far in the camp. I..e if you make a mistake you are punished no matter who you are. I don't think this could have been done with TO around, IMO.
