Bradie James Says Bring On Kitna, Anybody But Ego Guys
Newest Cowboy QB Jon Kitna is infamous for a couple of, how shall we say, stupid, namely
1. Predicting 10 wins for The Lions, and more locally;
2. Verbally slapping Cowboys linebacker Bradie James around after the 2006 season.
He also aimed in Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman's direction, noting "we definitely felt like Terence Newman was the best corner that they had ... but even with him, I mean, he's not Marcus Trufant, in my opinion. He doesn't have that kind of ability."
Who says team meetings won't be fun?
I talked to Bradie on Saturday, fresh off of a plane from Monroe, La., and not surprisingly, he says he's cool with his newest teammate. Especially if he helps them win.
"I'm just a player. I leave it up to the guys in the front office to make decisions," Bradie said. "And all any of us should care about is winning, whoever helps us win. Whoever they bring in I'm OK with as long as there is no more egos. The ego experiment obviously did not work."
And I don't think he was talking T.O.
What matters in locker rooms is "Do you help us win?"
Of course, it is interesting to Bradie (OK, more to me) that one of the areas of interest all offseason has been bringing in a linebacker. First with Ray Lewis talk. Now with signing Keith Brooking.
Has everybody forgotten that Bradie is coming off his best year yet? Or that he really improved his pass coverage skills?
Or that he is a leader in the locker room?
"Our season and my season were diluted because we didn't win a Super Bowl and that's as it should be. That is the judge," Bradie said. "But to say I need to be replaced, well, I guess I'm going to have to go prove some people wrong."
I did ask if it was OK for Bradie to talk. Were players gagged along with coaches?
"We haven't been told anything," Bradie said. "That said, everybody needs to be quiet and let the front office do their job."
I'd make one exception. Kitna would earn a lot of points in that locker room if he introduced himself to Dallas with an apology to Bradie and Newman.
