Can Pacman become Prime Time punt returner?

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is very excited. Real shock there, right? But he thinks Pacman Jones has a chance to be the best thing at punt returner since Deion Sanders (pictured) was high-steppin' past helpless coverage units in the late 1990s.

The Cowboys have long been in need of a full-time game-changer on punt returns and Pacman hopes to deliver Prime Time play-making with punts.

Pacman showed a glimpse of his potential with a 24-yard return against Denver. Not bad at all considering it was his first punt return since 2006.

Both Pacman and Deion were in Fort Worth Sunday handing out backpacks to area youth. So Deion, does Pacman have your kind of ability when it comes to punt returns?

"More, more, more, more. ...just the burst and the anticipation, the vision and the strength," Sanders said. "He defintely has that."

Pacman hands out backpacks to FW kids

Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was in Fort Worth Sunday afternoon along with buddy Deion Sanders handing out backpacks and sportbags to local kids.

Jones shares a moment here with six-year-old Victor Solis (pictured left) during the event held at Charity Church in east Fort Worth. Solis got to shake Pacman's hand and show him is his No. 21 jersey he wore--even though it was Julius Jones' he was proud to let the new No. 21 see it.

"I needed it for school," Victor said of his new backpack. "And I love the Cowboys."

Pacman believes he connects with inner-city kids and came out Sunday at 1 p.m. despite arriving at home at 4:15 a.m. following Saturday night's game.

"Anything for the kids," Pacman said. "I think I can relate really good them (inner-city kids). I am not the Hollywood-type guy so they can relate to me pretty good. I don't mind giving them a hug or patting them on the back."

This was the 17th year the Charity Church has handed out backpacks (loaded with school supplies) for local kids.

The image rehab plan moves to phase III....

If his agent is smart, he'll get some kumbaya time on Hard Knocks. I think a 45 second clip of him at church or pulling a toddler from a burning car should do the trick.

Prime Time is looking more like a Saftey these days than a CB.

Deion Sanders plans to make sure Adam 'Pacman' Jones lives up to No. 21

Deion Sanders plays a lot of roles in Adam "Pacman" Jones life -- spiritual guide, father figure, big brother, neighbor, fishing buddy and personal coach.

Let's focus on the coaching aspect of the relationship. Prime Time and Pacman actually sit in the movie room of Sanders' Prosper mansion and watch tapes of the Cowboys' practices. That's how committed Sanders is to making sure Mr. Jones fulfills to his immense potential -- and lives up to wearing No. 21 for the Cowboys.

"Trust me, he can live up past 21," Sanders said while standing next to Mr. Jones at yesterday's charity event.

Sanders figures the best thing he can do for Mr. Jones from a football perspective is give him tough love. That's why he had a list of nitpicks after Pacman's performance in the preseason game against the Broncos, which was a huge improvement over his stinker in San Diego.

"He knows I'm going to tell him the truth," Sanders said. "Everybody says, 'Oh, great game!' No, you were too high, you weren't low, you had your outside foot up when you shouldn't have. I get on him that kind of way. That's the kind of way we need somebody to get on us."

Oh, and Deion made sure to mention that the "old 21" would have scored on that punt return. Pacman's 24-yard return was pretty, but he was embarrassed to get tackled by a punter.

"The old 21 would have made that play, man," Mr. Jones said. "I believe I can kick it into another gear."

He better, or his fishing buddy will let him hear it.

What a bonus it is for Jerry to have guys like Deion and Irvin around to mentor our young guys. I love seeing stories like this.

It speaks to how much guys love playing for Jerry and the Cowboys; the fact that long after their playing days are done, they're still willing to help out the team any way they can.

Oh, and they do it in their spare time, free of charge.

If he weren't busy with the Browns, maybe Alfredo Roberts could come in and show Martellus Bennett the ins and outs of the Dallas party scene. It's always good to have the old generation pass on their wisdom to the young guys.

When did Bennett become a party scene guy?

could you explain that?

Where's Jay Novacek when you need him
Who needs Jay? Witten's better than Jay ever was, and probably more of a leader too.

I have more expectations for him as a Punt Returner than I do as a CB. That is what I am excited to see him do. Field position.

I think Martellus would rather play video games and read comic books. Or sneak into his dad's dirty magazine collection with his buddies.

Mark my words, Hos... you'll change your tune. He flashed major ability as a CB vs. Denver, but not many seemed to notice. He had a ridiculously quick burst to the ball on at least 3 different Patrick Ramsey passes, and nearly had a pick-six on one of them. By September 7th, it will be a dangerous proposition to throw at #21.

He also showed that he can get the job done as a tackler after all, registering a tied-for-team-high 6 tackles.

Don't misunderstand me, I have expectations for him at CB, but it is at PR that I really expect him to make a difference. I think he will knock off the rust there faster.

Ah, I hear ya, and I agree. Nearly broke his first punt return attempt since 2006... must be the football equivalent to never forgetting how to ride a bike.
