1. Martellus Bennett is a baby beast. Don't know what went wrong at Texas A&M but this guy is big, athletic and talented. He will have a huge impact and a big part of the Cowboys offense this year.
This man is what went wrong:

Leonard Davis is threatening to get below 350, a weight he hasn't visited since playing high school ball. Bigg is our long term option if Flozell Adams goes on IR with an injury.

Then the line is weaker in two places. If Adams goes down, things are gonna get very sticky. Sorry not buying Bigg at LT.

I'm really intrigued by our TE tandem. I can't think of another team, present or past, with TE's as talented as ours. I'm not just referring to receiving but blocking as well. Should be interesting to see what Red Ball comes up with.

Why not? He's played well there in the past.
When teams lose their LTs, things always get sticky.

4. Bobby Carpenter is on the verge of shedding the "Barbie" label. And maybe the bust label too. Carpenter is a good guy and deserves some success.

This is complete crap...pro football is not a "good guy's" game. No one deserves success unless it is earned.
To this point Carpenter has done nothing in the way of success!!!

"carpenter is a good guy and deserves success" ??? hahahhaha

what kind of statement is that? I think all the cowboys "deserve" success, which is why I am a Cowboys fan.

How do these people have jobs? I could have wrote that.

You might be having a senior moment with that statement, we got biggs and that was a hell of a pickup. Leonard Davis has made the ol legit without him we would never of sniffed 13-3 that year. I am still in agreement we need to get some OL talent figured out. Still have my fingers crossed on Free, I feel the redheaded Tackle is near the end of his stay in Big D.

Unfortunately, the true stud offensive linemen never hit the market until they're past their prime.

Unless you hit on a cheapo team who can't or won't pay their players - like Buffalo and Jason Peters, but that's a rarity.

Most of the time, when a team gets a 'franchise' tackle, they treat them as such.

But at this point, I'd settle for 'capable' over this team's backups.

Still holding out hope for Free though.....

we are getting a lot of mixed views on Mickens. We were told that his knee was not a problem but we have "journalists" speculating about it.

You can't stash players anymore. They actually make sure they are injured.(and Mickens is not injured)

He's simply saying that the guy has done everything he can, on a personal level, to be successful, and it would be nice to see him finally succeed. I agree with him. I hope it all pays off for Carp this year.

Sorry, I should have been more specific, I was referring to tackles, not guards.

And I agree on McQuistan, after some early promise, he looks worse, not better.

And any attempt to move him to guard is basically the James Marten deal all over again, and the results will be the same too.

lol at putting Mickens on the Practice Squad. That guy would not last a second on waivers.

He would have been a first day pick except everyone was worried about his knee. Well, we now know that his knee is not a major problem. So there goes that concern.

What you are left with is a proven college cornerback who is a playmaker, but is adjusting to the speed of the NFL.

A player like that won't make it to the PS.

I guess the question is going to be how many DBs we keep.

Obvious locks are:
Newman
Jenkins
Scandrick
K. Hamlin
Sensabaugh

That's 5 locks. So do we keep 9 DBs? 10?
M. Hamlin is pretty much a lock imo, so that's 6.
Ball sounds like he has turned a corner, and he has experience and can play CB and S. That's value, so maybe he's 7.

Still have Brown, D. Smith, and Mickens. If we keep 10, that's it. If we keep 9, one of those have to go.

M. Hawkins and Watkins are gone.

I guess it comes down to whether Mickens or Brown win that 4th CB spot. It sounds like Brown is doing well back at his old position. Could be interesting. I still think Mickens wins it.

well I obviously know what hes saying, but its dumb. How can someone deserve success when he hasnt even earned playing time?

Ciskowsli (spelling?) and team did a good job last year with Bennet et al. even though alot of the names were not sexy (Bennet, Scandrick, Choice).

Gives me some faith in this years crew.

How were Scandrick etc being perceived this time last year (early in TC)...anyone recall?

Brown had great OTAs but has been terrible in camp from what I've read. Hawkins is actually the darkhorse that did well in camp until he was hurt. Probably will end up like Oglesby though.

The news regarding Free and Mcquinstin is frustrating to say the least.

I hope Dallas finds some more help from somewhere for this year.

Anyone know how his brother is doing for the raiders?

Anyone that pretends that they could judge O-line based on training camp is fooling himself.

theogt;2865910 said:
You just can't. They're not going 100%. Defenders aren't allowed to get close to the QB and the linemen know it, so they don't go 100%. It's very obvious when you see them in camp.

wouldnt it be better to hope that a guy like Doug Free really develops this season?

and just fyi, just because an OL is drafted in the 1st or 2nd rd doesnt mean the guy will be a great, or even solid NFL player

the best OL in football from 1991-1995 had one guy chosen before the 3rd round on it...and that guy wasnt on either of the first two championship teams

You might have a hard time convincing several. Draft snobs refuse to admit the media people posting mock drafts can be wrong.
