FWST Blog: Classy Mavs reach out to Cowboys

Things might not be going well for the Dallas Mavericks on the court in their second round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets, but Mark Cuban and the Mavericks organization should get mad props for reaching out to their fallen comrades at Valley Ranch.

The Maverics have opened up a suite for their two home playoff games against the Nuggets for members of the Cowboys organization who were were involved in the tragic collapse of the indoor practice facility.

Several Cowboys employees attended Saturday's game three matchup against the Nuggets at American Airlines Center. And another group will be in attendance tonight for game four.

It may well be the final game of the series, considering Denver is up 3-0. But the Mavericks are already winners in the minds of a lot of people at the Cowboys' Valley Ranch headquarters, where winning on the scoreboard has a little less meaning in the face of a potential life altering event.

Dirk gets so much hate that I just do not understand it. He had a monster year and is having a monster playoff and yet he's still gets hate. He is all class. Something that is missing in sports today.

This sissy put up 35 and 9 in game 2, 28 and 10 in game 1, and 33 and 16 in game 3.

that is the mentality of fans. Just like Romo, dirk doesnt act like a thug, doesnt cause trouble, doesnt trash talk other players, doesnt disrespect his coaches, doesnt taunt during games etc...

so that makes him a sissy. Just like with romo. Dirk and romo bring out the best in the worst media in this market.

Like Donovan lewis on the ticket always says, The mavs get labeled as the sissy white team, yet they have only one white starter and he is better than 95% of the players in the league.

Did cuban really say something about martin's mom?

I have watched very little of the nba playoffs, they are awful to me. Every play there is a whistle and after every foul in the paint every player has that thug ghetto looking for a fight look. Talk about sissies, these guys would get killed in the NHL. If A guy like kenyon martin or bruce bowen did that thing where they look for a fight everytime they are fouled and then when they commit a fould cry for an hour about it not being a foul, someone would pound them into the ice in the NHL.

I always just giggle and shake my head when I see the nba guys acting tough.

Yes. He looked at his mom and said his son is a thug. That was out of line and unacceptable IMO even though he is correct.

However, I do agree with you about the NBA. The product is hard to unwatchable and has been for nearly a decade. The popularity is probably 3rd in the league but the postseason product is way behind the NFL and is behind the NHL and MLB.

Not sure what you are talking about. There are five players in the history of the NBA who have averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds per game in the playoffs (i.e., the biggest spotlight, the best of the best, the crunchiest of, uh, crunch times):

Elgin Baylor
Hakeem Olajuwon
Bob Pettit
Shaquille O'Neal
Dirk Nowitzki
