It's not like they are trying to replace an all-pro.

It's all pointless anyways, if the Cowboys land a NT Ratliff will be replacing Canty.

I'd bet a lot of money that Ratliff stays right where he is and rotates with a bigger NT. There's a reason why he thrives as a 3 technique NT in Wade's system. He wouldn't do as well at DE in our 3-4 esp against long armed and bigger tackles.

I agree. Our 3-4 DEs are still less attacking on more downs than not. I wonder if Hatcher is big enough to play DE with starting numbers of snaps.

How about we hire the local homeless bum on the corner... I'm pretty sure he would love to get a contract and would strive to "prove" himself as a worthy starter.... Does that mean he'll be good?

I would not mind seeing Hatcher in there. He as been on the roster for almost 4 years (I think) and we have to see how he can play. He might be more athletic than Canty and might be a better pass rusher.

How much money are we willing to pay for Canty? How well did he really play these last few seasons? I am still not that high on him and I think the defense will survive his loss.

Its time to see what Hatcher can do. Heck the guy was drafted higher then Canty so I do have faith he can be good. I just think the guy has to stay healthy.

I wish people would make up their minds about Canty. Is he just a guy or is he not easily replaced? I personally think he's just a guy and that his replacement is on the roster. He didn't even play well this past season until the entire defense was rolling. I could see people saying he'd be hard to replace if he was some kind of essential cog, but I bet the same people would be complaining if he got a megadeal from Jerry.

So, you think a rookie like Sammie Lee Hill (your 5th rd pick) should be a starter then?

That's where I have a problem with the way some people keep thinking about this.

So to be clear, we are going to take a Pro Bowl nose tackle and just flip him to the right side and simply plug in some person from Stillman College and he will be able to handle the immense responsibilities of playing 3-4 nose tackle?

The same applies to the right side end if we leave Ratliff where he is. I don't like Hatcher's prospects to just step in on that side where he's never played before and Bowen seems average, but I would certainly do that before I would move Ratliff and create a gaping hole right at the center of the defense. It makes matters worse when we might have either a new player or Burnett on that side. It is just an awful position to be in. I would do whatever possible to either try to secure Olshansky (or even resign Canty) if it can be done in relation to Ware.

I would trust Spears in the middle, Hatcher at left end and Ratliff on the right end if we were able to get ourselves a quality rookie at nose. But we will not have a shot at Brace IMO and he is the only one I would even come close to trusting in the middle of the defense. That position is so critical.

I didnt even think about that if the guys on the left cant beat the RT its going to be even harder on that other side going against LT. So now im nervous about thi situation again haha

Showing flashes is the definition of a being a journeyman player. I am with Parcels on this debate, after 3 years in the league you are pretty much all you are ever gonna be.
