Maybe Marty B is all grown up with some place important to go.

The Cowboys expected so much from Martellus Bennett, their backup tight end, last season, but he let them down. He caught only 15 passes for 159 yards and no touchdowns. That prompted questions about how committed Bennett is to football. The Cowboys have gone out of their way to talk him up this off-season.

Owner Jerry Jones again stated that Bennett, now in his third year, has matured.

"In how hard he’s working, in what he’s doing in his off-season, his business attitude," Jones said. "It happens to every player, and it’s happened to him. He’s got two years under his belt. He had some dips last year that he would be the first to recognize [he has to] build off those. He’s doing that. I’m really impressed with how well he’s working. ...He’s having a great off-season."

Tight ends coach John Garrett said Bennett is just more comfortable in the offense.

"Every day he's just starting to prove that he's getting better in every aspect, being more prepared, and he’s just more comfortable with the offense," Garrett said. "Year three, you're just more familiar with it. You've done it on the field, that type of thing."

"You've done it on the field" that is what it is all about. The kid has the athletic talent to be great but he has to bring it on game day week in and week out.

At some point Marty was going to realize that all the potential in the world wasn't going to get him a fat 2nd contract from the Cowboys or any other team without some on the field production. Here's hoping he becomes more of a weapon in the passing game like he showed his rookie year.

Yep, OTA's are one thing - showing on game days is another. As far as i'm concerend Bennett and Phillips should be neck and neck for the No. 2 TE spot right now.

Fully agree. He had a very good pre season last year making plays but once the reg season hit he was not making the plays that came his way. Entering his 3rd season he has to bring his A game to the front. He is a very good blocker but he has to bring the receiving talent that he has

I agree there are two guys on this team that are being coddled little too much (Roy Williams and Bennett). Both of these guys have people behind them that might be more productive but maybe not as much potential. Its time for both to step up or step aside.

Everything's great, and everybody's improving in June.

I could care less what his stats are as there are only so many balls to go around. How many receptions, TDs, etc. do we expect from the #2 TE? It's a question of catching the balls thrown to you (Giants game)!

Like a broken record...............

This article offered no more insight than Jones' interview regarding Bennett a month ago. Makes me wonder when it was written.

I'm lumping Martellus Bennett & Roy Williams in the same class, in that both were talked up last offseason, played well in the pre-season, and then disappeared in the regular season.

Now we're hearing offeason praises for both of them again, this time about how much further along they're coming with the offense...

...blah...blah...blah...tweet...tweet...tweet.

Whatever!

While that's all well and good, the NFL is a show-me league, and I'm not talking offseason/preseason either. This is year-3 for both of these players in Dallas; it's time that they both put-up, or shut-up & move on.

That's fine I have no problem with that I also do not have a problem when a coach talks about how well a player did during their team work out. No doubt if you don't bring it on game day none of what is said today matters. These coaches and players know this better than any of us it is about what happens on the field not in the press.

Right now if RW goes out and has a great day at mini camp I don't get upset about it hell I'm glad he did I'm certainly not going to rip on the guy for having a good day at practice but yes in the end it comes down to what did you do in the game week in and week out.

It is encouraging, but I won't expect too much until he starts to do it in September.

I actually agree with you. We just may be coming at this from different angles. Last year we heard about their praises and I fell in love with it; I was behind both players for it, and then the season came and they both dissappointed. So for me, the phrase at play now is "burn me once, shame on you; burn me twice, shame on me". That's where I'm at, which is why their offseason praises currenty - as good as they are - don't mean a thing to me. Been there done that. I want to see Bennett and Williams do it on the game-day field. It's time.

As I said I like hearing that a guy is showing improvement and working hard hell I hope that is what they are out there working to do as players, improve.

In the end it comes down to performing on game day that is what they are all judged on. I don't feel like I have been burned by these guys I'm a fan I pull for RW and Bennett as I would any of our players, I'm more interested in seeing them succeed than to fail but as a fan I can't control that only they can if they fail then chances of playing beyond this year becomes slim especially for a guy like RW but honestly I'm in their corner and pulling for them.

I feel no need to belittle them because they got a good comment from the coaching staff or Jerry
