First, I'm don't believe it's accurate to say Bennett is by far the best blocking TE on our roster. Last I knew Witten was considered to be pretty darn good, and Phillips is a very strong blocker as well. Maybe Bennett is the best we have, but the by far part was an obvious embellishment.
But you have to keep in mind that going into last season it was expected that Bennett was going to be a receiving weapon as well, and that didn't happen. He was expected to catch 20+ passes and he barely ended up earning the right to have 20+ balls even thrown his way.
Also keep in mind that apparently the team is less convinced than you are that Bennett is clearly the better choice because late in the season it was Phillips getting the extra playing time and the receiving chances, and not Bennett.
