Roger Goodell on Wade Wilson

The five-game suspension served by Cowboys quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson ends after tonight's game against the Bills. And Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wilson told him he'd be at the office when the team arrived home after the game.

But NFL commissioner Roger Goodell makes no apologies to the severity of the penalty.

Wilson was suspended five games for violating the league's drug policy. But Wilson openly questioned the severity of the penalty after Patriots coach Bill Belichik was not suspended by the league in the now infamous "camera/spy gate" scandal from last month.

"We have a very specific policy regarding steroid or (Human Growth Hormone) use," Goodell said Monday. "It's very clear what the penalty is both for players and people involved in the National Football League. He’s held to a higher standard. He was involved in a criminal activity and that calls for a specific penalty and that’s why he paid the five games so I make no apologies for that."

+1 Commissioner Hate.

I love the Miller Lite commercials where they are laughing at this clown.

That is such a crock of crap. No way the penalty should be the same for a coach using steroids as it is a player. How does a coach taking it affect the outcome of a game or play. The comish dropped the ball on the spygate issue and he knows it!!

I think him dropping the ball was no accident. This was all just trying to brush mistakes of a popular team under the rug.

oh thats who they are mocking? lol either way the commercial is just funny

There is nothing wrong with the Wade Wilson punishment. Coaches should be held to a higher standard. I had no problems when it first occurred and don't now.

The Patriots is a separate matter and I do think they got off lightly. Belichek should have also faced a 5 game suspension on top of the fines and loss of draft picks.

I agree. To me the issue was not the severity of Wilson punishment it was the lack of punishment to Belichek.

If it were Gibbs or Coughlin would anyone feel different?

I say yes. You would have been laughing at them.

If a VP of a company is tested and comes up positive should he/her get better treatment than just a Joe/Jane Doe?

Sorry but he broke the policy and has paid the price.

I hate it happened as much as anyone but he broke the rules.

Losing Wilson was tragic and the cause of our slide.....

If we lose against the patriots we all know who will be to blame.

Rog is doing a better job with the suspensions (than mr "head in the sand" Tags) but he's factoring public opinion over actual problems too much.

for example he basically waffled on Vick until public pressure forced his banishment when training camp opened (thank you PETA).

he lets belichick & NE off with a tap on the wrist and a wink, because heavy punishment there would embarrass the NFL and the league

OTOH Tank & others were severely punished because it makes the NFL look good cracking down on "thugs".

wade's suspension was ok imho but NOT RELATIVE to harrison or merriman (active player cheating) or NE (team cheating).

NFL has alot of work to do still.
