Joe Milton and the draft

As a 2024 prospect? Probably somewhere between Gabriel and Cook. But who knows what he is as a professional. You have 1 less year of minimum rookie salary, and he’s been initiated to the NFL by a bad team. So he could be better than that now, or not.

Like take Lance for instance, he was 3rd overall. Even if you didn’t think he was worth 3rd overall, he was going to go in the first round somewhere. 2 years later, the 9ers are happy to get a 4th for him. At the time of the trade, you can’t really make out anything more than that; that in itself is alarming.

Milton was a 6th round pick and was traded a year later for what is the equivalent of a 6th round pick. But because Dallas is not getting 4 years of rookie deal and a “fresh” player, that could be seen as his stock going up. He played well against Buffalo’s backups, so that’s something. But is the argument McCord wouldn’t? Gabriel wouldn’t?

It was a fine trade for proper value, and it’s not like 5th round QBs are guaranteed to be way better. So don’t try and overthink it. What if all these guys are gone by Dallas’ pick they traded? Could happen. Milton is a bird in hand.

Id say Milton gets a slight in value with a good start(against backups). Not much. Roughly the equivalent of what we traded for him. His preseason wasnt very good (under 50%), so we dont know how much better he really is as a player Vs. college

I think you have to factor in that he has a year of NFL seasoning- even if it was one game. He's been through a training camp, pre season, regular season. So, giving up a 5th for a guy with potential and a year in the league is obviously much better than drafting a guy that is considered a 4th or 5th rounder this year.

For some reason the Joe Milton trade has made me feel better. Got no reason why.

So very few Lamar Jacksons and Josh Allens success stories but plenty of talented quarterbacks that bust. I think in the last 30 years the Cowboys employed a few.

Few QB’s period coming to the NFL become quality starters. And outside of a handful, most who do make it need development.

Given the fact that NE was / is horrible with roster problems all over the place plus the win he had against a Buffalo squad looking past that game and into the playoffs it’s hard to tell about this player .

You gave up next to nothing he’s making next to nothing , basically he’s a younger more mobile version of Cooper with better tools to work with . Overall a churn the roster move with possible upside little to none down side .

Don't think he has near the head for the game that Rush does. Rush has overcome his lack of tools with his football IQ.

Sometimes I just wish we could put a player's brain in another player's body.

If given the same opportunity, he's better than Sanders. Sanders will likely end up with a starter role on a mediocre to bad team and Milton will be a backup on an average team. In 3 years, I project Milton will be better.

I trust that Schotty looked at all the QB's that would have been available in the 5th to 7th rounds and was not impressed. So the Cowboys traded for Milton, who I assume was a player they liked last year and has NFL experience (albeit just one actual start).

With the concussion protocol you need atleast 3 qbs on the roster, plus practice squad qb. Grier is not starter caliber, so I'd project him as a practice squad qb. I would definately take dart, ewers, or Gabriel in the 5th round, but I doubt any of them will be available then. Once dart is chosen I see a run on qbs drafted to get a backup or possible future starting qb. Which will probably be rounds 2, 3 or 4

In three years Milton will be on a crew doing road work. He’ll be the guy expertly operating that stop/slow sign when one lane of a two lane road is closed.

In the same time Sanders will be on his father's coaching staff as some low-level assistant. Better life than road work, for sure. Nepotism has its perks.

Every Cowboys fan knows the pitfalls of nepotism. I guess it does have its perks, though.
