This is designed to protect players, but in reality, the league wants to echo what the NBA did with hand-checking - increase the offense and put the defense on their heels.

More guys get hurt making cuts on turf - that's simple fact.

I repeat, dumbest rule in the NFL.

The "Brady Rule" will certainly be worthy of consideration before season's end.

Cowboys safety Gerald Sensabugh was fined $5,000 by the league for a horsecollar tackle on Carnell Williams in the second quarter of Sunday's game. Sensabaugh said he will appeal. He was not penalized in the game.

"I grabbed the back of the guy's jersey," Sensabugh said.

Jason Hatcher said he has not received a FedEx package from the NFL, meaning he likely wasn't fined for a low hit on Bucs quarterback Byron Leftwich.

I saw this coming. Especially since he wasn't flagged in the game.

If they're going to keep calling it for tackling a quarterback around the waist, I agree.

If he had been flagged in the game, would he still be fined the $5,000.00? Is this an automatic fine or is it just because a penalty wasn't called? And why wasn't a penalty called? Questions. Questions.

I remember hearing something about it prior to last season, but I'm not sure if it is an automatic fine. I know the fine (if fined) increases with each penalty.

I saw it but thought it wasn't called as he looked like he also got hold of the trailing leg with his other arm. My understanding was it was only a horse collar if you grabbed solely the collar/shirt area.

looking at the pics, that was definitely a horsecollar

they let it go if the guy grabbing the jersey doesn't use his body to drag the tackler down as well, which Sensy didn't do, he used his whole body in the drag-down

if he just grabs and pulls the guy down with one arm, he'll be straight

Yeah, I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the same play, but if it is the one I'm thinking of, I remember thinking that it looked pretty dangerous and was kind of surprised that Caddy got up. The whole rolling up on the back of someone's legs like that can be brutal.

I cringed when I saw it. But then I realized the ref probably wasn't in position to see it, since he was facing Caddy.

He made the tackle by grabbing the jersey around the nameplate, not the collar.

Not a horse collar tackle at all. Rule states you have to tackle them by grabbing inside the shoulder pads.

Fürer Goodell gets more ridiculous each week.

I see now pulling of the shouldpads

is this like the Polamalu rule - In 2006, Kansas City running back Larry Johnson reportedly was penalized 15 yards for grabbing Steelers safety Troy Polamalu by his hair as he was tackling him. Polamalu is one of several players in the NFL who have hair extending past their shoulders.

I think you guys are splitting hairs -- the way he pulled him back and rolled up on his legs is exactly how people get hurt from the horse collar tackle. Who cares if he was one inch that way or one inch this way from grabbing inside the shoulder pads?

That was a horse collar, giddy up.

Just glad Caddy wasn't hurt because...

1) I really admire his determination in getting back to playing after two patella tendon tears.

2) I took a flier on him in my FF league and after watching him run, I think I got great value and I want to see some *****' dividends! LOL

I don't think he was penalized because of tackling him by the hair. It was after he had tackled him he had pulled him up by the hair or something like that. I can't remember exactly.

did anybody else notice that the name plate was ripped off at the corner where he tackled him?

Yes, it is a Horsecollar.

The only thing getting more ridiculous each week is the lengths people go to try and bash Goodell, the league, BSPN, or any other thing that doesn't placate the fans by kissing the star on its big fat ***.

Pretty sure they fine either way.
