What if Ware blows up and gets 25 sacks this year? Great then you can franchise him, make him the highest paid defensive player next year, or if circumstances make him still restricted, so much the better. But what if Ware suffers a season ending injury or has a less than stellar season? He won't garner nearly as much as a FA, especially if the downspin in the economy continues. Making Ware the highest paid player right now with a whole year's leverage would be beyond stupid. And that's just the sort of move Jones specializes in.

No one was going to give Marion Barber the contract Dallas gave him. If they'd let him play out his RFA contract, he wouldn't even sniff the sort of $$$ that Jones paid him. But thanks to Santa Jerry, Barber played so-so football while raking in a fortune.
