Wade's not predicting but...
Don't get Wade Phillips to predict how well the Cowboys will be this season. You know, like saying they might win their first playoff game in forever. But he did try to fire up the 2,000 fans at the luncheon that all know the expectations.

"This is going to be a team you are going to be proud of," Phillips said. "We're going to do good things. We're going to do real good things."

What did Wade just say about Bradie?
During his speech at today's luncheon Wade Phillips highlighted certain players and their inspirational stories. He said when he evaluated all the players when he arrived he found a linebacker he thought he needed to replace. It was Bradie James. But he quickly realized he was wrong.

"One of my strengths is judging talent," Phillips said. "And, I said we've got a linebacker here that can't play and we need to replace him. I was absolutely wrong. Bradie James is one of the best players we have because of his leadership and his play. I need to go back and look at the film again because I couldn't see it, but now I do. The reason I do is because of all the intangibles and his production."

How many folks on this board said the same thing?

And "no", I was not one of them.

What kind of moron speech is that?

I like Wade, but holy crap, way to cut a guy down while trying to build him up.

That's some good stuff right there.

Losing 20 pounds makes a big difference, I guess. ;)

It was a rather odd speech indeed. That's Wade though.

By saying he question Bradie ability when he 1st arrived to Dallas and said he was wrong about Bradie and considers him one of the best players and leaders on this team? I'm sure Bradie is offended by that.

If he said what you said, then obviously not. But he didn't say what you said. Bradie shouldn't be offended regardless, he's a big boy.

How did he not say that? I thought Dooms summed it up well.

if he did 1 outta 2 ain't bad

I'm not sure this isn't a direct quote or anything I think he said something along the lines of .....

He had a bad pre season game and got pushed down on the roster but he started to show some stuff so I want to get him more refs and see what he really is capable of......

or something like that IDK really remember .

That is how I took the comment, maybe the fact Wade and I are from Texas has something to do with it but I did not see this comment as an insult but an admission that his 1st impression and his feeling now are different

"He said when he evaluated all the players when he arrived he found a linebacker he thought he needed to replace. It was Bradie James. But he quickly realized he was wrong.

So right there he say when he came to Dallas and evlauated he felt we needed to replace James but quickly relized he was wrong. I'm not an english major by any means but I take as a pretty clear statement he then goes on and says

Bradie James is one of the best players we have because of his leadership and his play. I need to go back and look at the film again because I couldn't see it, but now I do. The reason I do is because of all the intangibles and his production."

Sorry I just don't see what is wrong with the statement

I think I'd actually take it as a very high compliment. If he said, "I expected you to be a good player and you have been" it wouldn't have been as much praise as if he said "I didn't think you were a good football player, and you've proved me wrong by being one of the best players and leaders on the team".

I have never been a fan of James. For a long time I wanted to get rid of him and move on. I appreciate his leadership and do not think he is going anywhere. He is just not really my favorite player. One of my very least on this squad actually.

I don't think so its sort of giving a compliment by insult first. It's like I was going to get rid of you at first but you played better than I thought you would and I had to look over the tapes again to make sure. It's like wheres the compliment

For a coach to stand up and say I was wrong? My 1st impression was not good but because of what I have seen you changed my mind? As a player I would take that as a compliment that I was not handed anything but earned the respect of my coach.

It's like you meet a girl and she seems stuck up and really high strung but then you talk to her and find out she really down to earth and what not. So you tell her you're really down to earth when I first meet you I thought you was stuck up and blah blah blah not a compliment. Remember he said he had a LBer that couldn't play football.
