It's like you meet a girl and she seems stuck up and really high strung but then you talk to her and find out she really down to earth and what not. So you tell her you're really down to earth when I first meet you I thought you was stuck up and blah blah blah not a compliment. Remember he said he had a LBer that couldn't play football.

I read it and then read again I don't see the comment as an insult. Again maybe this is a regional things but from my point of view if I was James you bet I would take that as a compliment that through my work and play I proved myself to the HC. I don't compare anything to a girl we are talking about an athlete who was able to overcome a new HC coaches 1st impression

What kind of moron speech is that?

I like Wade, but holy crap, way to cut a guy down while trying to build him up.

I think Wade was actually cutting himself down as not knowing talent. Which is not really his job.

The scouts can recognize it and Jerry and Stephen can sign it for you.

It's Phillip's job to coach the talent provided him and not concern himself with evaluation.

If this is Wade's Achille's Heal..talent eval..then he's come to the right squad.

We don't need it.

Just coaching, Wade. Just coach and get a playoff win. Or three.

Unfortunately, you have that huge Giants loss in the playoffs so far as your claim to fame.

So far, you are in good company. Chan Gailey, Bill Parcells and now you.

Those guys were fired or left.

What's it going to be, Wade.

Eval that.

BTW..honeymoon is officially over the day the season starts.

Some people will read what they want to read in anything, regardless of the words used.

How many folks on this board said the same thing?

And "no", I was not one of them.

I was one who wanted both him and Ayodele gone but so far this preseason with ZT next to him he seems to have stepped his game up a bit.

I hope it continues.

Yeah I have to agree, some things are best left unsaid... Kind of stupid remarks.

Well if you watched the 2006 season it's easy to see why Wade thought Bradie couldn't play. It's obvious that getting him to play at his playing weight made a world of difference.

Wade's not predicting but...
Don't get Wade Phillips to predict how well the Cowboys will be this season. You know, like saying they might win their first playoff game in forever. But he did try to fire up the 2,000 fans at the luncheon that all know the expectations.

"This is going to be a team you are going to be proud of," Phillips said. "We're going to do good things. We're going to do real good things."

What did Wade just say about Bradie?
During his speech at today's luncheon Wade Phillips highlighted certain players and their inspirational stories. He said when he evaluated all the players when he arrived he found a linebacker he thought he needed to replace. It was Bradie James. But he quickly realized he was wrong.

"One of my strengths is judging talent," Phillips said. "And, I said we've got a linebacker here that can't play and we need to replace him. I was absolutely wrong. Bradie James is one of the best players we have because of his leadership and his play. I need to go back and look at the film again because I couldn't see it, but now I do. The reason I do is because of all the intangibles and his production."

- Rick Herrin
Just goes to show you that even if you're down, if you work hard, you can pull yourself up from anything and that's what Bradie has done.

For a coach to stand up and say I was wrong? My 1st impression was not good but because of what I have seen you changed my mind? As a player I would take that as a compliment that I was not handed anything but earned the respect of my coach.

First off Wade is one of those Switzer type coaches when he speaks.
First he speaks, then he thinks.

But I Do agree with you on the respect part.:)

Too many people overvalue some of our players, especially James. If James is great, and Canty and Ratliff are on the way to great, and Ware is great (he is), and Newman and RW are great, how is it that our D isn't absolutely dominant (it hasn't been)?

The answer is because some guys - most notably James - aren't all they're cracked up to be. They're not much above JAGs.

I would be much more quick to blame our style of D.

really.

Just wanted to be sure everybody was aware there are no more 'passes' for Wade.

I like the guy, but I just have the suspicion he should have done more whip cracking on last year's team toward the end of the season and not having said or done anything so far to put pressure on this team to get to the next level this year..

..that I can tell..

..so far..

..makes me nervous.

I haven't seen this team focus all summer. Not as a team.

Wade..it's on you.

By wide league opinion..Wade has the best talent in the NFL now.

Do or do not. there is no try..right Yoda..I mean Wade..?

Losing 20 pounds makes a big difference, I guess. ;)

Problem is that he is now not as effective at the point of attack. Losing the weight allowed James to improve his coverage ability, but now he is a little light in the pants. The strongside ILB has to be able to root like a tree stump, especially on goal line & short yardage situations. James gets uprooted and shoved around way to easily now.

James is in the 235-245 range, which is how much Zach weighs, but Zach is almost half a foot shorter.

James is a good player, not great. His greatest strength is his leadership, and even that is overrated. He was a JAG before Wade.

Trade up next year's draft and get USC's Rey Maualuga, a REAL playmaker and thumper. If fully recovered from his leg injury, I would also sign oft concussed Dan Morgan (6'2 245 and can run like the wind, play either ILB positions) as the primary back up to Zach and Bradie.

There are several striking similarities between Morgan and Burnett as both are injury prone, the differences however are even more evident. Morgan is an all-pro when healthy, Burnett is NOT. Morgan is more versatile, more instinctive & more sudden, whether jumping on a route or eviserating ball carrriers.

If we are going to have a injury prone back up at ILB, I would rather have Morgan. Morgan would also be cheaper than re-signing Burnett.

And let's not even compare Morgan to Carp, it's no contest.

I liked the kid that we had to let go to Tennessee. I thought he could amounted to something here.
